The actual time to production varies a lot, for our first one they were still in short supply, so it took several months. Lately they've been going into production the week after we order. Our dealer likes us, so we may get better production slots than we might otherwise.

If you put too much faith in the OL tracker, you'll be disappointed. My Chili Red JCW Hardtop showed up as a blue Cooper 2 days after the order was submitted, which my MA said would happen since my car was replacing one already ordered by the dealer. Two days after that, the correct car was listed as being on order - and 2 days after that, the OL showed scheduled for production, gave me the VIN and showed the correct list of equipment and options.
The car was completed 6 days later, but the OL still showed scheduled for production - which it still shows today, 3 weeks later! So, I guess I'd say the tracking system is great for confirming your order has been received and checking to make sure all the specs are correct, but beyond that, it's pretty worthless.
You're much better off calling 1-866-275-6464 (1-866-ASK-MINI) or checking with your MA for updates, but sometimes a car gets stuck in Never-neverland, where no one knows what's going on (that doesn't mean there's a problem). For example, my car has been sitting at Oxford for a full 3 weeks after QA for no explicable reason, but no trouble codes have popped up, so I' m not going to stress out over it - beyond just wanting to take delivery in the originally promised 6-8 weeks, which now is starting to look doubtful.

As mentioned, its best to go by ASK-MINI instead. But it depends on where your slot is, you MA should be able to tell you that. The dealer enters your order on an allocation slot that has been allocated to the dealer. Our MA could tell us that the slot was due for production in week 21, which is this week. And indeed the car is now in production.

My car is at the Baltimore VDC and will be at the dealership in Virginia by the 26th. I'm currently in Florida and will return home on the morning of the 28th. I have already arranged my pick up for the same day. I asked my MA to take photos when it arrives. I'm in Ft. Lauderdale and see nothing but MINIs here so the suspense is killing me!

Right after I posted yesterday, I called 1-866-ASK-MINI. While I was talking with the rep, he refreshed his computer and received the update saying my JCW Hardtop had been released to the carrier for shipment to the port.
This morning, I checked the WW Cargo Tracking website, which told me my car had been received at the terminal and was booked on the Tampa, which is scheduled for departure today!
BTW, the OL still says my vehicle is "Scheduled for Production."
Have a great holiday weekend, everyone.

I ordered my 2013 Countryman ALL4 on May 6th, and have yet to even be given a VIN. After a week+, OL finally let me put in the production #... Of course it says it's a "2009 Clubman S" and has said so for about a week (without a VIN). After talking with a customer rep., they said it's still only "slated for production"... WTF?!? 2.5 weeks without anything being done? I think it's time to send a strongly-worded email to my MA.

I agree. I guess it's just super frustrating when there's no information. In this day and age, there's no reason why a (semi-)premium car company shouldn't have state-of-the-art tracking systems & be able to communicate to the customer/consumer. The 'tracking' system is a joke...

IMHO, MINI is just frustrating its new customers, who are excited and should be the company's greatest cheerleaders. It's incredible to me that the OL tracking system doesn't work with an iPhone or iPad, and the interface for the entire OL is clunky as well. This should not be a case of "something is better than nothing."
BTW, you did scroll all the way down to the bottom of the list in the OL Order Tracking to Review Order Detail, right? A lot of people seem to miss that (including me), and it's the first place your VIN will appear once it's been assigned.

Their whole website is a joke. The MINI configurator crashed at least 6 times last week and the whole site went down for maintenance to fix it for 10-15 minutes at a time.
Why they still use Flash for most of their site is beyond me.

New MINI Cooper S Clubman Ordered!
Well, 10-years, 1-month, and 5-days after I placed an order on my Indi Blue/White 2003 MINI Cooper S...I pulled the trigger again last night, and placed an order on a 2013 MINI Cooper S Clubman.
My new Clubman will be Pepper White with Black roof/mirrors, and black sport stripes, over Carbon Black leather/cloth seats, with the Carbon Black color line interior, and Pepper White dash accents...Sport Package w/the 17" Black Star Bullet wheels, Premium Package II, and the Sport Suspension...with various other one-off features added in.
My motoring advisor, Jason @ Knauz MINI (great guy BTW, let my 4yr old son play with the MINI toys he had on his desk while my wife & I did our thing...definitely recommend him if you're looking for a MINI in the Chicago area), quoted me 6-8 weeks for delivery. The process was just as easy, and quick as I remember it being 10-years ago...hard to believe you can part with that much money, that quickly .
So almost exactly 10-years after I took delivery of my 2003 MINI Cooper S, I will be bidding her a very fond, very bittersweet farewell, to take delivery of my new Clubman. I had always hoped I would be able to hold onto her forever, but alas, life intervened. She is by far the best car I have ever owned, so I plan on enjoying these last 6-8 weeks. We will have at least one last MINI event/gathering, the Chicago MINI Motoring Club Superdawg Meetup, in mid-June...in which I will FINALLY initiate my son into the MINI cult (although, lets face it, I've been initiating him since he was born). So if any of you are attending, see you there!
So even though it's bittersweet, I am very happy I will be continuing my MINI ownership...earlier this week, I didn't think that would happen, and I would have to go the route of something much more boring. So I am happy (and grateful) that my wife came around, and we'll be able to motor on for many years to come in our Clubman!

Aaaaaargh!!! What does this mean?
The WWW Cargo Tracking website has been humming along with Status Location reports all day (Booked, Received at Terminal, etc.) for my car, but one just popped up I've never seen in any of the information here: Returned to Shipper. Does anyone know what that really means, beyond not sounding good)?
#6921
It means that vehicle didn't make that particular ship. Generally, it's because the car either didn't get to the terminal in time or the ship was overbooked. Never fear - it should make the next voyage. Happened to some others in this thread and their car did ultimately make it out later.

If this proves out to be true, my Countryman JCW may set a record for shortest time between a ship docking and arrival at the dealer.
It was on the 'Cronus Leader' which seemed to stop everywhere....Zeebrugge, Southampton, San Diego and Long Beach, before finally getting to Port Hueneme in California yesterday.
So, yesterday my MA - who is very buttoned up - sent me an email saying it had docked. It was one day earlier than scheduled.
And then today he sent me a text saying it's cleared customs and the VDC, is on a truck to San Francisco, and will could be at the dealership as early as tonight or tomorrow.
So, if it's true, that has to be some kind of record. Fingers crossed.
