Very interesting. Thanks. I wonder when Mini will update the online configuration tool?

Woo hoo! I just got word from my MA not three minutes ago that my R56S is in transit to the "VPC" (Vehicle Processing Center), which I'm assuming is actually called the "VDC" (Vehicle Distribution Center). Or am I wrong, and they're actually two different things?
And without pestering my MA, is there an easy way of learning the name of the ship my boat is on? I apologize for the newbie type questions, but I'm not thinking too clearly this morning. My doctor has me pumped full of Xanax for a non MINI related issue.

Hey, guys – Dealers have used up their 2013 allocations for all models, so they're now ordering 2014 models. MINI has said that production of the F56 for the European markets would start in July, alongside continued production (for a short time) for the R56. I don't know if dealers are actively ordering 2014 F56s yet, but we won't see them here until next February or March.
I believe that all other models just get small model year updates (not total platform changes), so the changeover from, for example, the 2013 Countryman to the 2014 Countryman shouldn't really slow down delivery of those models. So, if you had your heart set on certain 2013 options, the only way to get them would be on a car that was on a dealer's lot or inbound to a dealer.
Regarding the the website, it's pretty much standard operating procedure for auto manufacturers to not update their configurators for the new models until the older models are closer to selling out. I don't know specifically how MINI works, but I wouldn't be surprised if the 2014 configurator wasn't up for a month or two.

And enter your VIN in the cargo field.

If it's going to the VDC that means it's already off the ship. At least that's how it is for all the posts I've been reading. When did you order? btw - your MA should be able to tell you what ship it is on. Mine did but I'm on a K-Line ship that you can't search for yourself.

Thanks to both of you. According to my MA, my car is still on a ship. I did a search one the freighter's website, but my VIN doesn't pull up any results. They shouldn't do this sort of thing to an old man like me.
On a slightly related note, during our exchange of emails this morning, I asked my MA about pricing of the JCW tuning kit and the possibility of obtaining a discount in the event that I decide I want it. I was quoted a price just shy of $2800 for the kit and another $500 for the install. The price seems way out of line for what the kit is and the amount of labor involved. And I see there are a number of vendors on this site who sell the kit for considerably less, although I don't know what their labor charges would be.
Given the right price, it might be worth me taking a road trip up to Way Motor Works some weekend. What is the general consensus on the value of the kit, is it worth the bother and expense for the additional performance it purportedly adds?

For those of you getting ready to place an order (for a '14), you should note that the financing specials on MINI's website only apply to '13s - that was a nice tidbit to learn from my MA this morning (who said he lost sleep and was worried that I'd cancel my order - and his sales $). Didn't really matter to me as I had already researched other options just in case.

Im also glad I pulled the trigger on the R56... I didn't like a number of things on the F56..speedo being one...but many others as well... I still am very curious to see what the real F56 will look like...
