Thanks. I'm still debating it. See update to my post above.

I was the first in my family, 23 year Air Force vet. Didn't even have to talk him into it... he is dying to start. Should find out what his career field is sometime in the next six weeks.

Looks like they are painted if you look close at the bottom right image. Don't know if GP ones are or not, since I don't know if these are OEM, or if Outmotoring paints the black ones.

Yeah, they do look like they're painted. And yeah, hard to know of they are OEM or if the vendor just paints the black ones. I wonder of RealOEM.com sells the GP ones and if so, if they are painted.

Maybe someone will chime in and enlighten us?

Maybe. Or maybe I'll do some searches on the board tomorrow and see if I can locate some info.

Yeah, it's plastered all over their website.

I had to stop the guy from telling me all these goodies I needed...by the time he was done.$5300 he had added up!!.. I looked at him and laugh...and told him to come down from his high tree... I wasn't interested in any of that crap!! ha ha bursted his bubble!!

Air Force and Navy here. My family is also multi generation military. And my stepson is a 3rd generation Navy serviceman.

That sounds like the voice of inexperience, Zippy. I'd suggest another installer. (Every car is hard if you don't know what you're doing.)

I've had protection packages put on four different cars by three different installers, and none of them brought up any issues with the full hood - ezcept the price, which is $300 more for a MINI around here.

OK, CR&PW&JB, I finally figured it out from all the clues you've given: a week's worth of work, an unusual accessory, your military background ...

You're getting a new MINI and starting a career as the captain of your own business!

ECS Tuning sells a lot of genuine MINI parts, including the red GP2 ducts here: http://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2011-C...uct/ES2627468/

I won't say this is the definitive answer on painted red vs. molded in red, but maybe a quick e-mail to ECS would get you the answer.

That is a listing of all 1,440 vehicles. I guess WM* are Minis, WB* are BMWs, and I don't know what RR's VIN is (WR? RR?). There is one on that ship, but they don't seem to be in any order I can tell.

Like I said, slightly interesting.
Hey, this just got more interesting. Those VINs coupled with this page, and Google Translate, and you can see what others ordered, or what is on the ship. Kewl.

Awesome, Guys... thanks so much for your service !!

Aw, man... you are SO close, Spa. But picture this: a hamburger instead of a hot dog. Ketchup dripping out the sides. Chili Red ketchup, of course. Some White Silver sliced onions poking out of the bun. Now you get the picture ? You know how I am about everything on my MINIs matching the color scheme!

Mine has not been updated yet, but Tiger is on her way to Tacoma. Thanks for bringing my ride west. Farewell and following seas!

She'll be there soon enough. If you aren't having anything done at the VDC, hopefully she'll be on her way in a day or so.

I'm excited to head to the dealer today to shop for another car! It's just too bad it's not for me...

Still, gonna drive there in my new mini!

Hey CR & zig,
My best mod advice for you is to replace the rear sway bar with a 22mm larger bar. I installed the nm one, and it has totally changed the handling for the better. Best performance bang for the buck IMO. Now, the rear end feels like it follows the front end around corners, Instead of feeling like its being pulled. Quicker turn in, and faster acceleration out with no understeer. Love it!!!

I know you were talking to Zip... But what did that cost you (ballpark is fine)?

MSRP on the nm bar is $299. Due to a dealer misquote, I got it for $230. Paid $135 labor to install at a MINI tuner shop. There are less expensive brands. My only reco is to make sure to get a bar with forged ends.

The only two items that were non factory installations where the chrome bonnet scoop and the short antenna, and I believe both are dealer installations.

How about you? Are you having items being installed at the VDC?
