You'll get used to the manual quickly. You develop a feel for shifting. Notwithstanding the tach, sound will guide you between gears. It's like riding a bike and certain other activities ...

Yeah I took it out for the first time last night with the radio off. I only stalled once :P I don't think that's too bad for someone that's never owned a manual and on the first time driving it haha. It's a lot stiffer? than my friend's versa I practiced on a bit last week that's for sure.

I learned on the old "three on a tree" in a work van. Imagine shifting a 3-speed from your steering column, then compare it to today's 6-speed manual.

yikes...the first manual car I drove was an old civic with power-nothing on it lol. I was more worried about steering and not running into things than shifting on that one...didn't last long.
Apparently these Potenza RE050A have 140 treadwear... I guess I should get those pace spokes and DWS tires soon lol.
That's a great website, E! Totally had me cracking up! Good advice for beginners too! I'm trying to convince my wife that it's time to (re)learn a manual so she can drive Chuck and enjoy the smiles - will definitely send this her way.

You should listen to their radio show/podcast. "Car Talk"
Just put in an order for a JCW HT in PW/B, was told 8-12 weeks for delivery. And the wait has begun..
Is there a way to change your Username on these boards? Or do I just need to re-register a new one? Thanks!
Congrats on the order!! Waiting sucks...
I find that on most forums if you PM or email a moderator they can change your username, no need to register again. Besides if you try with the same email address it won't let you, I think.
Thanks tampadave and 14PacemanS! Been considering it since February and finally broke down and ordered it yesterday. lol. I will say that driving home from the dealer, I had this sentiment of relief..that I finally did it lol

Thanks for the advice! But i got a noob question, how do I find and email said moderator? lol.
Thanks for the info on the tires. So does Mini just put whatever it feels like the day of the build? Is there no rhyme or reason to which RFT tire you get?
"Hey Simon, what should we put on this poor blokes Mini? Continentals, Dunlops?"

Mine just came with Bridgestone Turanzas (16"). I have no complaints about them. The road noise didn't seem too bad and the car felt planted during the dry, hot and very fun drive home.
