power steering

Interesting, power steering pump went out. Replaced last month and now starting to freak me out. Going out again.... I turn off engine and turn on right away and power steering back on. Does this every 50 miles or so. Again all I do is turn key off and back on and good to go for a while. 2005 cooper. Any IDEAS????

Safe to say you used a rebuilt pump rather than new?!
The rebuilt units are not remanfactured, but rather taken appart, cleaned, a few irems replaced, and reassembled. Unfortunately, the electronics, which can fail resulting in a pump that runs when the car is off, or sometimes turns off randomly, and the dc motor, the windings and comutor wear, or short out...this is not replaced either...so the rebuilts are ok for a pump that leaks, but other issues are simple not addressed.
Short of checking the plugs/connections on the pump, checking the fluid level, it sounds like you need a NEW pump, or you can chance it on another rebuilt one (underwarrenty from tge rebuilder i hope).

Thanks ZippyNH. Yea, it was a rebuilt pump. I felt like it could be sending module or sensor problem. Guess I should bite the bullet and get new one. Thanks again for quick response.
