Should you refrain from using "Sport mode" during the break in period?

i had sport mode on as i left the dealer lot

also, don't be afraid to use full throttle, just don't exceed the 4,500 rpm limit

my salesperson said "drive it easy for 1200 miles" the mechanics said "drive it hard, but keep it under 4,500 rpm"

I have broken in several motors. What I do is go for a long drive (200-300 miles) on some back roads and run the car at an RPM for about 2 minutes than change the RPM (1200-4500). I run different gears at different RPMs as well. Never bog or over load the motor. I like to do an oil change at 500 miles. After 500 miles I pump the throttle slowly up and down for about 20 seconds then continue driving different RPMs for about 4 min intervals before pumping the throttle slowly again. At 1200 miles do a second oil change. Then start driving more normal but not hard. At 1500 miles start having some fun with RPMs over 4500.

Thanks all... had many new cars and different dealers (Saab900 turbo, RX7 GTU, Subaru WRX, multiple Jeeps...) tell me many different ways to break them in, but never for such a long mileage time frame. Looking forward to my MCSa in about three weeks! I drive my cars pretty hard and want to make sure I give it a good head start!

I've used the soft method and the hard method listed below. Which way you decide to go is up to you, just remember to change the oil a couple of times during the break in....
If you take the time to read this, I think it helps to understand that its all about the piston rings.
