New to the Mini World

Hey guys,
Just got my first mini as of 1 day ago. Got a 2004 mini cooper S and I believe it fairly stock. Only things I've noticed so far is the painted Supercharger cover and the wrong size wheels.

Things on my mind about the car:
-Currently the car is on 15" rims with winter tires on it so I want t get Rims and tires. not sure if i should go with run flats or not and debating on 16's or 17's.
-The CD player wont recognize CD's so I think I'm going to use that as an excuse to install an after market deck and maybe consider amp and speakers.
-Considering an air horn... Has any one ever done this to there mini, if so where'd you hide the horns because there's not much room under the hood.
-That rather large speedometer is slowly growing on, but as of right now it still bothers me a little. Not sure exactly what I'm going to do yet but the one idea I've had so far is trying to switch over to the gauges used in the Nav equipped mini's.

I Guess that about sum's up where I'm at with the Mini. I guess I'll just have to start looking threw the threads before I start all these projects.

Welcome aboard! Or, to the "cult" as I have seen MINI owners referred as.

I'm a new owner as well - as of Aug 1. I'll give you my limited 5 cents on my experience/observations so far.

Modifying your own MINI is a basic tenet. Non-standard items are a point of pride.

Tires: The consensus seems to be, "Just say no to run flats." There's a variety of reasons from performance to difficult (& expensive) to replace. The winter tires are not unheard of for colder months in icy/snow intensive regions.

CD player: I have the MINI connected w/ Nav & find the idea of a CD player dated. A USB flash drive / smartphone capable system seems more user friendly. Also, your player not "recognizing" media I presume means that you made the CD & it is not a commercially produced one. The player should recognize MP3 based files. However, updating the system would enhance your motoring adventures.

All the items you mentioned, appear in this forum somewhere. So, others will have more expert info & opinions. The most important thing is to have fun. Enjoy! See you on the road.

I have 17's I like the look a lot more. But don't go with runflats. Get a tire pump/slime kit.

There is a way to check the CD player but it involves removing it...just upgrade the system if you want to since the CD player is probably going out.

What are you referring to when you said the "painted supercharger cover"?
