New Here- Fob Question

Im Don hi. I live in Portland Oregon and am enjoying my new mini clubman- s

Im sure this web sight will be entertaining and informative, looking forward to chatting with fellow mini enthusiasts-

My Fob had worked once to start the engine without the fob being keyed-
I cant seem to do that again, is there something special that needs to be
done first???

How old is your fob? It may need a new battery. My fob on my newer 2013 gets recharged while inserted in the ignition. Perhaps yours is similar. It also will not work if I have it partially in the ignition (i.e. it either has to be fully engaged or not at all). Another possibility is your fob may need to be reprogrammed, which a MINI service center can assist with.

I just learned something. Did not know they recharge. I might need to start putting mine in the mini since I use the remote top operation heavily.

Congrats on your mini!

Revoked,

Glad to be of help. And, you have exceptionally great taste in vehicle choice to include color.

BTW, my husband is from Salisbury, NC -- so, great minds DO think alike.

Enjoy your new (to you) MINI too!

If you have comfort access it does not charge in the dock, it will have a replaceable battery. If you do not have comfort access you will not be able to start the car without the fob docked. I have heard that if you dock the key and then remove it you can start the car. I am not positive on this.

Spice Orange is correct -- the owner's manual states that comfort access fobs have a replaceable battery. (My MA & service advisor both told me that my key was rechargeable. Bad info apparently.) Sorry to cause confusion. So, a new battery might be in order as described initially. Apparently, malfunctions can happen with radio wave interference -- fob close to a mobile phone for example. Let us know Don how it turns out in the end.
