Hell to all!

I have two six speed Mini's. A 2008 and 2012 and both have cruise. It was an option on my 2008 and standard on my 2012. I use the cruise on the highway. Can't avoid the highways on a 52 mile roundtrip to work. Also Mini's with cruise control have better trade in and resale value. Put it on the car and don't use it. At least its there for the next owner. I have the option.

Agreed. I was a little apprehensive before undertaking the pulley. Once into it, it seemed to go fairly smooth. But on the bright side it allowed me to get familiar with its innards.

I am now officially done highjacking this thread.

Highjack away!! Im taking it all in, and wondering if I will ever be as *mini-savvy* as yall seem to be!!
Im not terribly worried about re-sale. We have 15 and 13 year old sons, and I have a feeling my MINI will get gifted to them next year once our oldest has his license, and *I* will get a new one! They seem to think in the mean time, my car is automatically going to be theirs to practice driving on! Uhh, not so much. Although, we arent thrilled with the thought of them practicing on the truck either! Maybe I can ship them to the grandparents while they learn how to drive. Our oldest has been practicing, and is getting better but I am a nervous wreck!!!

Welcome! The title drew me in, even though it was obviously a typo. Online forums like these are the absolute best ways to learn about your car and be entertained at the same time.
Imagine how boring this thread might have been if it was titled "Hello to all!"
And thank you to your family for your service.

Welcome aboard! I'll let the Coastie jokes lie dormant for awhile...
Seriously, thank you and your husband for your service. The USCG often is over looked, and under appreciated (most don't even realize the USCG are deployed over seas just like "Big Navy").
I spy a "Checkered Flag Mini" license plate frame.
LOL! Same place I bought my daughter's R56, though it's now down in southern Florida. Had a good experience with them, and they made the process fairly smooth for a Dad that lives on the other coast to buy his daughter a car.
Hope you have fun with your new Mini!

Yep! Coast Guard for 21 years, and we have heard it all from other branch members! LOL My immediate answer is that Uncle Sam signs our paycheck just like he does yours!
We got a new Schwans guy a few weeks ago. He is bringing my order into the garage, and he sees hubbys Harley (its a Patriot Edition...CG). He glances at the bike, and then at me and laughs. Im like uhh what? He says "Aww, CG Im so sorry". Im like ok why are you sorry? He says "well its the CG you guys are laughed at everywhere". At this point I am just done with him. I just shrug it off with a whatever. He decides maybe he was rude, and says "Well, I am prior Navy so I have to make fun of the CG"! I saod oh prior service, thats cool........he says yeah I did 4 years. So at this point I say wow 4 years, and you got out to be a Schwans delivery guy? Then I just giggled, and shut the garage door in his face!
We went all over looking for my new car. The first time we went to Checkered Flag, I was insistent on finding the car I had in my mind. (British Racing Green, Convertible, tan/black interior, and a manual transmission). They only had one that I kind of liked, but the mileage was crazy high. The salesman we had was young, and new so he wasnt terribly helpful. A week or so later, hubby had talked me into looking at a few models with different options. We got a different salesman this time, and this guy knew his stuff. We were schooled in MINI that day! Overall, our experience with them was great. We are glad we bought through a MINI dealer, and not just at a used car place.

Bravo Zulu! Seven years Navy, served with a handful of coasties for a while and have nothing but the highest respect for their dedication, skill and teamwork. I'll bet Mr. Schwans spent his enlistment swabbing sculleries and polishing dumpsters. Semper P!

Im not normally a snarky witch......but this dude needed his attitude knocked down a few pegs! We have lived on Navy bases a few times, and had many Navy friends. Good natured ribbing is always fun. This guy just really was a jerk! I cant **** him off too badly though, my kids want their ice cream sandwiches! LOL

This Schwann guy reminds me of a guy that crashed our table once when I was out with some friends in Bremerton, Washington. He was telling us how he had the most important job on the aircraft carrier, then said that if he told me what he did he would have to kill me. I asked him a few questions, then he was like you know a lot about the ship. I told him my ex husband had been the EMO (electronics materials officer). He just stood up and walked away. Turned out that he tightened the catch lines. Yes, important that it is done right but, really!

Thanks for the welcome!! I am such a Donkey sometimes, but I always seem to make people laugh! Its all good! Honestly, I trip and fall on my face when I am walking into a room of people I dont know.....so why would I not do that when walking into an online room! LOL
My husband is in the Coast Guard, and we just moved from Valdez, Alaska to South Mills, NC. We built a house in the middle of farm country. We live off the straightest most boring highway! There are cops always hanging out on it too. I have to drive 17 miles one way to get to a town, and then 19 miles the other way to get to another town. The Speed Limit is 55. I mainly want CC so I dont keep getting busted on this dang highway!! Aside from this road, Im really diggin' driving my new baby! I have to admit though, Im so new to the MINI world, that all the letters and numbers you guys are throwing at me are confusing as hell! I will figure it all out eventually!
As far as whoever asked what kind of rum I was drinking. My constant answer is "whatever is in the cabinet"! Last night, that proved to be Krakken something or another.

It seems my speedo is about 3 mph off. We called the dealership, and they said something about since mini can have different size tires, the speedo doesnt need to be calibrated. Sounds fishy to me.
As far as Manual goes.......my husband just hates being stuck in traffic while driving a stick. My last manual, was when we lived in Boston. I prefer it, because I dont get bored sitting in traffic! I just find myself talking to the car, like COME ON SHIFT!! I still dont really *get* the paddle shifters, and the shift with no clutch thing! It just seems pointless to me?

Seek out other threads about speedometer error so you'll understand then if you care to, educate that dearlership. The variance is there for a reason and is built in.

Try this link.
Plug in your tire size and it will let you know what other size tires will work and what difference it will make in your speedometer reading.

To be able to compare tire size to mph go to Discount Tire Direct; top right of home page click on info center and then go to tire size calculator. You can compare oem to different tire sizes and it will display new tire mph to oem mph. It will also provide diameter, circumference, height, width and revolutions per mile. Great tool!
