Hell to all!

Hi....I am new to the board, as I am also a new Mini owner. My husband just bought me a 2008 Hatchback for my birthday a few weeks ago. I LOVE it! We lucked out and got a 2008 with only 20,000 miles on it. Technically, I wanted a stick shift, but this one has paddle shifters (which I so dont know how to use yet)! The ONLY thing I am bummed about is there is NO cruise control!!! I still dont understand how a 2008 car can NOT have cruise as a standard option!! I have done a bunch of internet searching, and apparently I am not the only one with no CC, who wants to add CC!

I am completely confused about the retrofit kit, and whether or not it would work for me. As of now, I know we need a MFW steering wheel.....but beyond that.....nothing! Our salesman told us its a 50/50 shot whether or not it will work!?!?!?! I dont get that, but whatever!! So any CC input is appreciated!

It should be alright I'm just a **** so I figured I'd point it out (It was pretty clearly a typo...I'm a few pints in now and I picked up on it so I'd imagine everyone else could) Sorry I can't actually help you with your issue...I bought my R53 used and it had CC...although I had to use the manual to figure out how to use it

Use the NAM search engine, type in 'retrofit cruise control', pour yourself another drink (hell yes!) and start reading. It is doable but requires jumping thru some pretty tricky hoops.

What rum, by the way. Have you ever tried Mt. Gay Eclipse? Mmm good, doesn't need a thing added.

LOL, don't sweat it, you are going to fit right in!

CC? Really? I can never find a place to use it and I like to drive my car too much.

Hell....cruise was an option in 2008. I have a 2008 and it came as part of the sport wheel. Hell yes!

You guys use cruise control? I don't think I've ever used it. Why try and get a 6MT if yiu're not gonna be involved in the drive?

Thanks for the welcome!! I am such a Donkey sometimes, but I always seem to make people laugh! Its all good! Honestly, I trip and fall on my face when I am walking into a room of people I dont know.....so why would I not do that when walking into an online room! LOL

My husband is in the Coast Guard, and we just moved from Valdez, Alaska to South Mills, NC. We built a house in the middle of farm country. We live off the straightest most boring highway! There are cops always hanging out on it too. I have to drive 17 miles one way to get to a town, and then 19 miles the other way to get to another town. The Speed Limit is 55. I mainly want CC so I dont keep getting busted on this dang highway!! Aside from this road, Im really diggin' driving my new baby! I have to admit though, Im so new to the MINI world, that all the letters and numbers you guys are throwing at me are confusing as hell! I will figure it all out eventually!

As far as whoever asked what kind of rum I was drinking. My constant answer is "whatever is in the cabinet"! Last night, that proved to be Krakken something or another.

Welcome and from a retired military guy thanks for your service. I know what my wife put up with for 25 years. Boy talk about an adjustment. From the great white north to NC. wow.
NAM is a great place for leaning about your new child and place is full of knowledgable people, just learn to use the search button.
Try and post a picture of your MINI.
Again congrats and welcome

Yeah, we are in year 21 of this military adventure! And thank YOU for all of your service, it takes a special kind of person to give a 25 year commitment to our country. We have been together since we were 14 years old. We have lived all over, but we are originally from Northern NH. Specifically, we have been in MA, TN, MA, AK, MA, TN, AK, NC.......see a pattern here? :P We are both over moving, so hopefully he can do his last 9 years in this area (or Geo if he must), and NC just may get us for good!

I have wanted a MINI for a few years now, but living in Valdez Alaska....it was just not a great idea! So, he went ahead and got me one for my birthday after we moved here! I have followed him and his career for many years, and in return he loves and spoils me!! I am TOTALLY ok with that!

I have a few photos I can upload of my new toy. The one with the dealer sticker in the window......note the big *** 3500HD Chevy truck in the background. Thats what I have been driving!!! He normally rides his Harley back and forth to work, so the truck was always with me. Talk about going from a MONSTER truck to a fun itty bitty car!! I am LOVING it!!! I will also include a photo of me......I tried to upload one as an avatar, but I couldnt figure out how to do it. I need to quit having a cocktail before coming on here!!! I might pass off as a fairly intelligent woman otherwise! LOL

Ahh the Krakken...I've had a good night or two with a bottle of that stuff

Welcome! I went from an ex cab silverado, down to my MINI as well. For a couple months I was still taking wide turns and expecting to see the rest of the bed behind me. I know it was fairly simple installing an aftermarket cc in other vehicles, can't see how the MINI would be all that different... Then again I haven't tried.

I see you've done quite a few modifications to your MINI...were any of them "fairly simple?" Seems like everything I do to my MINI takes much longer than I had expected due to the overly-complicated German design.

Well, the stripes were fairly simple (but time consuming), CAI, coil, and wires were easy as well. It is a little cramped under the hood though.

My comment was aimed more towards the pulley install...disconnecting motor mounts and lifting the engine? To install a pulley? Seems a bit outrageous to me...but it was totally worth it
