Hello from Germany

Currently am located overseas with the military and will be returning in a year or few more.

Just purchased a 2005 Mini Cooper S Convertible in Hot Orange. This isn't the first mini that I have owned. I previously owned a 2010 Mini Cooper S Hard top and an 88 Mini Mayfair. I still currently own the classic mini but it is currently for sale. I really enjoy seeing the difference between the turbo and the supercharged versions of the mini. I prefer the supercharged because there was too much turbo lag with the newer Mini. Looking forward to modding the vehicle and plan to auto-x it when we return to the US.

Car came with stock wheels and summer tires. Purchased some TR Motorsports C1's and I think they look great. Good wheel, light, and cheap.

That's a cool Mini. What size tires and wheels did you get? I'm looking for a new set myself. I currently have the factory 16" and thought about changing to 17".

They are 16"s... I went with those because those wheels are only offered in 15's and 16's... the tire size is 195/55/16. I plan on buying some springs to lower it about 1.5 inches so 16's are good for me.

Thanks! I love the color too. Apparently there were very few made in Hot Orange and it was a convertible only color. Or so I've read. We're stationed at Ramstein. We really like it and enjoy Germany a lot. Especially the Ring. I've taken my classic out on the ring and although it was slow it was a blast! Can't wait for summertime.. get a couple mods on the vert and go to the ring!

Congrats on the cabrio. I share your feelings about the supercharged vs. turbocharged MINIs. I've been to Germany a few times now and I'm hoping to land a job there someday. Been to the Ring but have yet to actually drive on it - it was shut down unexpectedly on my last attempt (accident of some sort).

Welcome to NAM!

Nice. Out of curiosity, how long does it take for a car to be shipped from Germany to the US? And were you allowed to keep your German plates?

Do they make you put the US plates on it before shipping it over?

Not exactly we get whats called qq plates which we can use until our registration is up then we have to register the vehicle with the state we are living in or from. Then we get state plates
