What's a soccer casual? I just moved from San Antonio. Get used to those big pickup trucks trying to run you off the road around town.

Yeah, I traded a big truck in for my MINI, and love it! Hope you enjoyed your time in SA. Casuals is a soccer club I'm in. Also a support group for our very own San Antonio Scorpions.

Pay attention to local dealer Website and their facebook page https://www.facebook.com/#!/MINIofSanAntonio/events for random drives around the area. Sometimes the driving can get a little "spirited".

Welcome

Bob

Do you know where they take these drives? I'm not exactly a socializer, but once I get my Mini, I want to take it somewhere fun to drive.

(BTW, another San Antonio newbie here. My 2013 MC is on a truck on its way here right now. Sure hope it gets here this week!)

Howdy! ...and do as Bob (guywhomaybuyamini) says.

The last MINI of SA-led drive I took was out to Lost Maples State Park and the motorcycle museum in Vanderpool. Great fun!

Thanks! I love how squiggly the blue route line out there looks on Google Maps - that will be perfect. I've lived here for nearly seven years and have yet to be out to Lost Maples. I'll have to give that a try.

May I recommend this round-trip route.

Since you aren't too far, definitely keep in touch with the calendar for Texas Motor Speedway for driving events and track days. Great opportunity to get photos and meet other drivers!

Boondoggle of the Americas may be having open track/driving-school days in the future, so keep an eye on them.

...and join the Austin Mini Cooper Car Club Meet-Up group. They have been known to go south of the Colorado River on occasion.

Picked up the MC yesterday. Pic attached. Such a fun car to drive! I haven't taken any of the suggested routes yet, but I took a loop from 281 to 306 to I-35. It would've been more fun if 1) there hadn't been as many other cars on 306 that kept me from speeding around corners, 2) I hadn't been futzing with the stereo as much (my iPod and the car decided to stop getting along halfway through the Beastie Boys' "Paul's Boutique"), and 3) I hadn't been afraid of getting a ticket my first day out. I'm thinking of taking SH-130 up to Austin this weekend; I hate toll roads, but would relish the opportunity to drive 85 perfectly legally.

Using my GPS for real MPH, I was able to drive Toll-130 at a MINI-indicated 92! Woo Hoo! That's with the 204/45-17 tires. Remember to watch for feral hogs!

Even though it was legal at 85 be careful posting stuff like this as it is against the rules and you don't want the forum speed police beating you up.
