You got yourself a good one. With concientious care; close attention to fluid levels, regular tire rotation and avoiding the temptation to make lots of radical changes, you'll get miles of smiles with your motor. Here is a list of URLs I've found very useful over the years.

I see how it is! Ok here it is.
I plan on adding a couple gauges, boost and oil press (can't stand knowing my engine is toast by the time the light comes on).
Tighten up the torque links for the engine with soft poly inserts ( I don't want a hard rigid mount to the frame).
And maybe a couple other goodies just to improve what is there.
Thanks for the welcome aboard!

The first thing that would make your R53 happier is to change all the fluids including the transmission if you don't have maintenace records. Second, the installation of a rear sway bar will be the best grin making mod for the buck you can find. Like Fly'n Brick says check the fluids often. Unlike the the mind set of many non MINI owners, the R53 requires a modicum of attention. If you good take care of your R53, it most certainly will take great care of you. Congratulation on your wise purchase.

I've got a picture with just that issue on my gallery. It is a good reminder to pay 'tention to the details at all times. Little things like that can turn into bigger problems down the road. Had a cargo door pop open on take off one time. Lucky it was at a small airport and a go-round was not a problem but the door was a little off. Some bailing wire and chewing gum got it fixed enough we could make it back to the home field.

Ya. I double check every time I close my hood. Guess its bc the hood has two catches. 2 is def better than one!
Had an eclipse once, emergency catch didn't work, left the hood popped and went to go to the auto parts store. How do I know the emergency catch didn't work... Freakin hood flew up when I hit 40 mph, smashed my windshield, f'd the hood up, f'd the roof up. Now I double check all the time bc I'm paranoid from that incident!

Good eye Astro. It took me a couple of times to figure out how hard to close it. Bet that eclipse hood got your attention!
Oil and filter are changed. Interesting that the clutch and brakes share the same fluid. The only thing that really bugs me is not being able to get to the super charger oil easily. Poor design there.
Man I like that car!

Np Bruce! Usually, if you push on each side of the good after you close it, you can get the side that didn't close to latch.
Ya, that damn eclipse... What a surprise that was! Drove for a min or two looking Btwn the hood and dashboard. It was never the same after that.
Have fun with the oil pressure gauge. Little bit of work there. You'll need an oil adapter to run the line. Forget where I got mine, but I was from the UK I think, and quite cheap actually. Look good and hard before you spend $40 like all the vendors want!
I'll check my emails for you.
