I would just like to say hello to all NAM members and take a little time to introduce myself. I currently am a Volkswagen owner and have been one for some 15 years. I must say, I'm completely disappointed by the 2012 VW CC I purchased last March to replace my 2002 VW Passat V6. So much has changed with their products that I found myself on an exploration for a car I could enjoy driving again.

I first thought the BMW 1 Series might fill the gap left my by Passat, but the fuel economy put me off. They are great little cars but again, not sure if the 128i or 135I was "fun" enough. I found myself at the MINI dealership with a friend who was looking for a new vehicle. The roadster immediately caught my eye. A convertible was something I never really gave a great deal of thought to but it wasn't completely out of the question. I took the Cooper S 6-Speed for a test drive, then the automatic, and finally the JCW. They were all great driving machines, and I hadn't had that much fun since my 1987 Acura Integra.

So, last weekend I ordered a 2013 Cooper S Roadster. I'm awaiting a production date and the color choice was excruciating. Since 1986, I have only owned silver cars. I found them very easy to live with. Since I just pushed myself away from a brand I was very comfortable with for a long time, I thought that a color change as well might be long overdue. So, Lightning Blue it is.

Thanks, roseyposey. It's quite a change from silver, and completely out of character for me.

Thanks, Tex6 Hawkeye. You might say I'm a bit predictable. They'll be confused, guaranteed.

Funny, I've also owned mostly silver cars since 1996 with only two exceptions, one being my last Cooper S (Mellow Yellow). When I went to order a new Cooper S this time around, I was set on getting another "fun" colour and was very tempted by Lightning Blue. I love how deep it looks in the sun.

In the end, practicality won out and I'm getting White Silver, just like everyone who knows me will expect. Congrats on breaking out of the mold!

Thanks for the welcome, kavatski. I think that anyone considering White Silver needs to see it in person. It photographs very differently, and upon inspection, it seems to have a pearl metallic quality you either love or hate. I probably would have gone with White Silver if it was more a straight up silver metallic.

There's nothing wrong with practicality, kavatski.

Agreed. I spent time at the dealer lot looking at various possible colours in person in the sun, in the shade, when dirty, when clean... to see which I wanted to live with. My first Mini was Pure Silver (your regular silver metallic), which is no longer offered. I'd have preferred that as well, but ultimately White Silver is close enough and I don't mind the pearl effect.

On another note, I just noticed you've ordered Satellite Grey Lounge leather. You may want to follow up with your dealership on that, because that leather option was discontinued by the factory as of March production. Dealers may think they can still order it and the web site still shows it as an option, but the order may not actually go through that way.

I posted this a couple of months ago in the "Waiting for a 2013" thread and someone else recently confirmed that they weren't able to get Satellite Grey on a recent order attempt. Don't mean to scare you--it's possible that they've brought it back since then--but may be worth looking into.

Surprisingly enough, I checked with my MA and it appears that they cannot secure a production in May with the Lounge Satellite Grey interior at all. We're going to proceed with the current order to see if the Lightning Blue and Lounge Satellite Grey gets bounced back. Wish me luck. I do have some alternatives in the works, just in case. Thanks for the tip, kavatski.

That combo sounds really good and I know, the wait is a tough one. Hope that S gets the green light and you can take delivery in the near-future!

Well, it looks like the Satellite Grey is no longer available, so it is on to my second color choice combination, Midnight Black and Lounge Toffee. Thanks for the heads up kavatski.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but glad you had a second choice lined up that will work out. Should look great--I'm a big fan of the Toffee leather. Congrats.
