My 2005 Mini Cooper Power Steering, Alternator, yada, yada, yada.

Hey everyone! I'm Aric,

I've got some issues with my 2005 Mini and need some insight. Driving one day around Va. Beach and my Mini dash indicates the battery light. Shortly after noticing it I desperately try to get home. My instrument panel starts going crazy and then my car goes dead.

I was lucky enough to find a shop around the block that sells Euro parts. I purchase a battery and make it home. Yes...the battery light is still lit so I take my alternator to get rebuilt and go through the tedious process of taking the whole front end of my mini. Light went Off..great! O...but wait...my power steering pump doesn't work. I get it (power steering pump) rebuilt and buy a brand new cooling fan for it. STILL NO POWER STEERING! I've checked every connection at least 20 times each...Am I missing something?!?

If i recall right, there is "sense" wire from the alternator to the PS pump...the PS pump turns off if the voltage drops from the alternator... Giving you more drive time.
Sounds like you failed to reconnect the wire, or your rebuild is not good enough to provide the voltage needed to have the electronics in the pump turn back on, meaning lower than spec voltage.

P.S.
Taking off the front bumper cover, bumper, then using bults to pull the modular front end forward should take about 20 minutes off...20 back on...
