First time MINI owner; R53 in the PNW
I just picked up a 2004 MCS two weeks ago and I am HOOKED! My wife and I have always liked the idea of a MINI and a good deal presented itself so we took the plunge. I cannot believe how snappy this car is... but the itch is already setting in. Isn't that how it always works once you find a good forum?
I'm a bit of a nut when it comes to modifying most everything I own (bicycles, motorcycles, cars, trucks) and do as much work myself as possible. The best part of this car is that my wife is almost as into the idea of modifications as I am! Well... at least the parts I share
The car:
99k miles and a good deal of options - completely stock aside from a drop in K&N filter. I'm having the windows tinted tomorrow and hope to order a WMW pulley package next week. Carfax shows the vehicle was maintained routinely at MINI of Portland so I've sent a little request and hope to obtain records of what specifically has been done - in an effort to narrow in on what maintenance items to prioritize.
I know there are several maintenance items which can turn into a bigger deal so I'd like to be proactive as to not spoil the fun of the car.
I'm very pleased with the abundance of information available on this forum and it's great to find a forum this active!
See you around!

Congratulations! MINI of Portland is great to work with.
I'd suggest going into the dealership with your key and have them read it. (I think Gen 1s have fobs??) Begin to establish a relationship with a SA. I've always been taken care of by Jarid and would suggest going to him.
Enjoy your new ride.

I will try to sneak in there on Saturday. Thanks for the recommendation!
Ill straight trade for your JCW
The roof is actually going black to match the mirrors though. And chrome will begin to subside.
Noted. Thank you!

Got the windows tinted 20% all around, blacked out the beltline, new Michelin A/S 3 rubber, Phillips Crystalvision bulbs for the parking/high beams (they definitely don't look close to the xenon), did away with the stock antenna and rear wiper, and new pulleys, plugs, and belt waiting to go on.

Not really a kit. I removed the wiper equipment, flipped the factory grommet, and used a bike headset cap to fill the hole. Considering I will average more time in a month on my bicycle than in a car, it seemed fitting. And cost was $0
Ill be sure not to remove yours then!
Thank you!
Thank you!
