Im getting my first car in the next few months. I have fallen in love with MINI. My parents don't believe that mini coopers are safe due to size. I really want an S model that is a manual. What years are good and what years should I watch out for?
Ever consider leasing a new one. That way you can get the safest and most up to date vehicle. No cost maintenance and you wouldn't have to pay for repairs. We all know MINIs sure need there fair share of those. Just a thought.
I have heard nothing but bass reviews about 02 and 03 R53 which is why I purchased an 04. They have transmission issues which is kinda important to the whole driving thing.
Just be cautious. I am a technician at a dealer here in WI and I know from experience these cars can become very expensive very fast. We have people that come in everyday that have purchased a <$10,000 car and needs oil pan gaskets and superchargers and other extensive repairs. Had one that needed a cylinder head the other week ($4000 Job). In my opinion I haven't seen a mini under $10,000 worth buying. It may sound like I'm bashing MINI but I Love and live the brand.
I'm thinking that you have done some research on MINIs by now and it seems that you know what you want, whatever car that you decide to buy its a good idea to have a pre purchase inspection done on the car by someone that knows MINIs. It's worth it. I hope that you find a car you like
