Just picked up an 03 Cooper S

Hello,

Earlier this week I purchased a 2003 Mini Cooper S with 6 speed manual and 144k miles.
It has a few faults; passenger window doesnt move, speedometer doesnt work (all other gauges and true speed read out works fine).
There are also a few parts that are just plain worn out, and I have begun the process of renewing the car.
I am happy with it thus far, and will eventually start modifying it. My plans for the car are just to have an enjoyable daily driver and take it to the occasional auto-cross.

Here is the only decent picture I have of it.

Nice color choice!

Welcome to NAM!

Not sure about the speedometer problem, but for the window, try forcefully and repeatedly hitting the door above the speaker while flicking the window switch. I know it sounds crazy, but it can help help get the window unstuck and has been working for me on both my windows for the last 3-4 years...

This works even if the window doesnt roll down? I will try it anyway.

Thanks

Yeah. On mine it only gets stuck when its all the way up. I hit the switch and just hear a click. Then I know I have to pound it a few times while hitting the switch and it eventually goes down.

I'm not sure exactly why it works, but I think I ran across it from a BMW forum, since the same thing happens to BMWs...

Well I didnt know what to think, but ran out to the car and gave it a try.
Sure enough, after 2 hits the window started moving down. Works fine now. Thanks a lot man.

Did you get rid of the old codes before you swapped sensors? Maybe the code that is showing up is just one of the old ones?
Cause I had a code for my fuel evap system, and fixed the issue, but the autozone guy didnt clear the old code.

Welcome to NAM, nap51dcrow and congrats on the new MINI. BRG is a great color, nice choice. I hope you're keeping the roof graphic and stripes. It sounds like you have a little bit of work to be done but I'm sure it will look even more fantastic in the end. Be sure to keep us posted with pics along the way. Happy motoring and please don't forget to wave.
