New Mini Onwer in South Texas

Hey guys, just picked up a 2005 Mini Cooper S Convertible from the original owner with 140k for $4900, im pretty excited to start reading posts and sharing some of my experiences. I've owned my share of volkswagens and toyotas, but the closest I've come to the mini family is driving my dads E46 M3... Any tips for a new mini owner?

Welcome to the MINIacs!

The R52 is a great car, I'm sure you will really enjoy it as I enjoy mine.

The first special thing is making sure the TOP is cleaned and protected, BMW/MINI make a cleaner and protector for the top. It is best if you follow the care instructions for it and it should last the life of the car.

Then the rest is just basic MINI maintenance, and it should last a good long time.

Motor on!

Hey welcome Lee Oh!

Great looking Mini, looks like you got a great deal! My advice is just drive it! Not sure where South Texas is exactly (I guess it's not as far north as north Texas...), but if you come through The Woodlands area, I'll wave back at you! Congratulations!

Lol I'm down in San Antonio... Just got it tinted today but it overheated on me while waiting for a train, so I gotta park it til I can figure out what's wrong, plus at a stop the Ac isn't working but works when I'm moving, I guess that's not as big of a problem but something I noticed today as well :(

Did you check the front main fan ? Does it just overheat when stopped ?

Haven't had a chance to diagnose what it could be, my guess would be the fan as when I'm driving the air blowing acts as a fan pushing air through the condenser and radiator causing the car to run at normal temp and the Ac to blow cold...

And yes only overheats when stopped

So did a little troubleshooting before it got dark, turns out I have a blown fuse FL9, appears to be for the fan, i can spin it with my hand so it's not locked up, I'll go buy a fuse and see what happens

Yep, get that replaced. Make sure its the right #/ amperage fuse ( its marked on the panel ) , sometimes people put in lower numbers and then it blows the fuse all the time.

Thanks

Yea it's a 50A fuse, got it swapped out and now I hear the fan kick in, let it sit, didn't overheat and the Ac cools but now I wonder what caused the fuse to blow

Whats was the fuse size coming out ? Underrated.

Great to hear is working, I have seen a battery change and miss matched the cables blow the fused. Or changing a battery and the arch caused it, pretty rare.
