New owner of an '09 S.

Whats up guys.

I just picked myself up a 2009 Cooper S with 41k miles on it. I am loving the car so far. I have owned a WRX and STi in the past. I am pleasantly surprised at how nimble this car is compared to the nose heavy Subarus. I figured being a FWD the car wouldn't track out as well as the AWD Subaru, but it feels really good in the twisties. It is also zippier than I expected but I do still crave more.

Do you guys have any recommended reads? I have been searching for information on tuning/chips etc. All the bikes/cars I've owned have required tuning anytime you uncorked the engine. I am sure this is no exception but I am not finding much. I have lots of learning to do.

Anyways that's all for now. Thanks guys!

Welcome to NAM! I too came from the WRX world. Had an 04 WRX Wagon, Cobb Stage 2, intake, Turbo XS exhaust (full exhaust from downpipe back), European OEM 17" wheels, coilovers, STI scoop, side skirts, and more STI appearance mods, etc... and I absolutely loved it. Beautiful Platinum Silver Metallic. Was sad to see it go; but it was time to move on. Between my wife and son, we are still a Subaru family otherwise with an 05 Outback XT, and an 05 Forester...but I never regretted buying my R56S.

There are TONS of articles, how-to reads, and the forum members here are a wealth of information for mods, appearance, etc...You've made a great choice! My 07 has just north of 103,000 miles on it; and it's going strong. Maintenance is key, and these cars last quite a long time with proper care. Modding is more expensive for the MINI than it is for the WRX/STi scene-but that's one thing about BMW being involved (things get expensive) Vendors like Pelican Parts (great articles on care, modding, how to stuff, etc...), M7 Speed, OutMotoring, and so-on provide a lot of great resources.

Again, welcome!

-Dave.

I will get you guys some pictures tonight. It was late when I made my post. The first thing I want to do is blackout the chrome on the headlights, below the windows, and probably the hood scoop part as well. I already did my own 2.5" muffler delete lol. I do need to find a tip that will fill in the rear bumper where the duals used to exit. I found a few candidates but they were all too restrictive as they necked down too much at the end. I will do some shopping around this weekend.

Great pictures, looks like a very clean purchase! For the chrome bits, lots of people use plastidip. Here is a great thread on NAM where individuals have used this on lots of parts of their MINI's. As for the tips, we do have the sport exhaust tips here that maybe you can figure a way to weld them up to your single tip. They're sold individual so you could get just one. Otherwise, maybe you can fabricate something yourself. Good luck and enjoy your new MINI!
