New Mini owner SF Bay Area

Hi, we just added a 2003 Mini Cooper to the fleet. My wife wanted one for a little while and it will keep some miles off and avoid the poor MPG of her truck. We looked at a few cars and found this one. It is a one owner car with complete service history including new clutch and head gasket done at 100k. The car has 110k now so it's low miles for an '03.

It's pretty well optioned, with leather, sunroof, auto climate control, HK audio, and even parking distance sensors. After two who days of ownership I am very impressed with the car.

I've been reading a bit on the forums and learned a bit already, most notably about the rally lights on my car. i look forward to learning more and reading interesting stories.

I still need to clean the wheels, hopefully tomorrow .

- Hal

Congrats , its even in velvet red. Very rare to see today;

" It's pretty well optioned, with leather, sunroof, auto climate control, HK audio, and even parking distance sensors. "

PDC was very very rare , looks like someone want an expensive Cooper back in the day. Congrats.

The rally lights look stock. More info here on cover and such.

If you need anything for them , let me know and congrats again.

Looks great! First MINI I've seen with chromed R84 wheels. Also the first one with a full set of toggles that don't appear to be all functional. What do the toggles without labels do... do they move up and down, or are they fixed?

Welcome to NAM, Hal! Great lights. We have those on our R53 MINI as well (yellow on in my signature). I love that look. Looks like a great purchase and everything was maintained well. If you ever need anything be sure to let me know and I hope you and your wife enjoy the new-to-you R50!

They do move up and down but are not connected to anything. Previous owner thought it just looked better with the toggles so he installed them.

" First MINI I've seen with chromed R84 wheels. " That's what I was going to say but back in 2004 allot of stock wheels came in chrome or the dealership had it done, chrome wheels for MINIs were evry popular in the early days , seen a bunch of chrome S lights.

Thanks for the welcome! As an aside, I am a long time customer, and fan, of ECS and Pelican Parts. I have ordered many parts for my BMWs over the years and now am sure to be buying Mini parts soon.

So would I be crazy to plasti-dip the wheels white? I like the look of white wheels on the dark colored MINIs so I think that may be on tomorrow's task list. Nice thing about plasti-dip is that it can be peeled off pretty easily so I suppose it's not a big decision.

Not at all, R84's look good in white or silver, but the chrome looks good with the velvet red. Too bad they didn't chrome the center caps.

I would get a local place to cover them in plastic chrome.
