First thousand miles down, in just over a week. I drive 100 miles a day... So miles will likely stack up fast.

Been searching for some rally lights for my mini... I know about the ecs tuning ones, but don't want to spend $643 for two lights the size of my palm. Are there other inexpensive options out there for rally lights for a r56 Cooper?

I came across some halo xenon hid headlights on eBay in black for $324... This may be tempting down the road if they are brighter than my stock halogens.

I do 90% of my driving at night so some help would be appreciated! Looking for options for rally lights! thanks!

You could do the Hella 500 , those a universal but very popular. they are bright.

hella lights :

Universal Hella 500 , then you will have to make your own brackets and wire to a rocker switch .

I appreciate that feedback. I wonder if mounts are sold anywhere... I'll try to research a bit later this week when I have some time. Thanks for the link though! I might just buy those.

Should be fairly easy to build some decent stainless mounts for those lights.

Visited the local salvage yard yesterday afternoon to see what they had for mini parts... Kinda sad the cars were all caved in with snow, especially since one was a jcw and had my same interior. I did find a shorty antenna though and brought it back to life on my mini.













At first glance, I contemplated saving the wheels, but the lef front is bent pretty good. I'll keep the other three in mind though.

Quick question for experienced mini owners. Some wheels and tires came up for sale locally that I am interested in and may go pick up for the mini. I'm wondering if they'll work alright. From the research I've done on here and other forums, they should be great, besides the tires being a little too narrow. The specs are as follows...

16x7.5 and 16x9 staggered
Et35
195/40r16's front
205/40r16's rear
Schmidt Modern Lines
1/2 inch thick wheel adapters 4x108 to 4x100, so et would be about 20mm on all four corners.

It would be an aggressive fitment, but from what I've read, it shouldn't poke at all.

Thoughts?

Oh. The mini continues to be great. Bought a factory mini roof rack for it... Came completely disassembled and took some creativity to put it together! I wasn't a fan of the leverage tool provided to get the rack on, but it's on. I'll be picking up a Thule fairing for it today to decrease that slight whistle the rack makes at 65+mph. I've been driving my Audi mostly over the winter months here... And the mini here and there.. I've put about 4,000 miles on the car now, sitting around 14,000 miles total. Alls good. Love driving it. Excited to get some fun wheels for it.

I might put my tires on them... 195/55r16.. To protect the wheels more.

Those ET 35 wheels plus a 13 mm spacer? That would poke out, right?

I decided to go a different route and picked up some rota grids off craigslist. Specs are:

16x7, et40, 205/55/16

I like the way they turned out. Nice fat tires for these crappy Minnesota roads. Protects the wheels and offers me and my passengers a smooth ride.

Yea the ride will be improved much with 55 and 65 series tires. So those will be your winter wheel?

Wheel color looks great on your car. Wow, ET 40 17X7 wheels are just right for the fenders. I would have never thought a 205/55 17 tire would fit without modifying the fenders! They look meaty in those wheel wells. Like that a lot. What tire did you use?

By the way... a Mini on snow always makes a good picture!

Thanks man! The tires they came with were Dunlop Direzza I believe. They're alright. But I'll be putting new tires on them very soon. I'll go with Continental extreme contact DWS tires. I'm not sure what size yet. I like the look of these and do want them meaty... But I wonder if I can go wider.. Like a 225/45r16 or so.. I'll have to do some research. It would be nice to go as wide as I can go and keep the beef!

Depends how close to the wheel well edge the 205/55 tires are when a bump compresses your suspension. Even a 215/50 should be close to the same fit as your current tires. 205 to 215 is only about 0.4 inches wider, so split that width, add about 0.2 inches on each side of the Dunlops you have on the Mini.

Next time you're out with your camera, take a picture down the side of the car with your front wheels straight ahead, to see how close your current tire comes to the edge of the wheel well. Would be interesting.

Conti Extreme Contact DWS is one of the best tires.

So maybe 215/50 or 225/50. I'll have to see what the tire shop says.
