Hi from Tucson,AZ!!!new project 2007 mini convertible Blue

HI guys. ill been reading this forum for a few weeks trying to fix a 2007 mini cooper convertible with transmission problems that we got an auction for my wife since she sold her beetle convertible.Just i didnt have the chance to work much on this mini that the cvt stays in low ratios or gears, when i pick upthe mini put my generic scan and read the code P1786 and cleared and never came back but i changed the stepper motor, filter and oil and bought the bmw inpa to relearn the transmission shift but so far no luck just wondering if you think that maybe should change the solenoid to cover my bases and try again before take a part the transmission and rebuilt?

Thanks for all the info and for you inputs.

Transmission

Welcome to NAM ceol and please post some pix of your convertible!

I assume you have inspected the shift cable and its adjustment, and the fluid level after you have driven and it is warmed up?

Does a Check Engine light come on at all? Any fluid leaks?

The most basic thing to start with is to track down if the problem is electrical, hydraulic or mechanical. Since automatic transmissions are not easy to diagnose, it might be worth having it checked over at a dealership or transmission repair shop.

Please let us know what you find out.

Welcome to NAM! Pop into the R52 section of the forum HERE as you should get a better response to your question.

Do you have EP showing on your dash? P1786 seems to be related to the issue you're experiencing. I've posted some links below that reference that P code:

Read this specific post linked as it recommends replacing the stepper motor (on the valvebody) before going straight to a transmission replacement: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post3927221

Good luck and let me know if you need anything while you tackle this job.
