Good morning.
When my daughter's 2002 base MINI grenaded it's 5-spd manual transmission recently, we parked it behind the shop so I could decide what to do next and immediately found her a 2007 MCS with a 6-spd. She loves it! And I have another potential project waiting. Apparently, ALL early 5-spds explode so there aren't any around for an easy swap!
I was a complete noob with MINIs when we got the 02 and because it was basically trouble free (until the tranny), I'm still basically finding my way with the S. Anything specific to keep an eye out for?
Thanks!

Welcome.
On the 5 speed Midlands, some people do the 6 speed getrag swap or the 5 speed getrag swap.

Some rebuild.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the welcome folks!
Unfortunately, I doubt the 5 spd is re-buildable (but I haven't gotten into yet...) It sounds like a handful of bolts in an old coffee can and the fluid pours out (in a stream) when it's in gear at idle. I've read some on the 6 spd swap, so maybe I'll look into that. For now, it will just have to sit behind the barn and wait its turn. lol
Tons of great info on this site! Thanks again!
