MINI S Trailer hitch

Hey y'all! Looking for info on trailer hitches for my 2003 MINI S. Saw several at the springthing 10 in Florida this weekend but didn't write down the info. Would appretiate if some could send me a link if they know of one. My e-mail is Rstar109@aol.com.

Thanks

John

There is a little bit about this in the travel section.

Maybe else where in the forums as well. If you find anything, be sure to post.

Good luck & welcome..

A trailer hitch? What are you going to tow, a 37' AirStream? Please post a pix of whatever it is you plan to tow. Can wait to see a Mini tow something. I'd never considered that they could. Are they any good at it? Perhaps I could use mine to tow my Vespa.

Don't let this happen to you.... pulling something heavier than what your car can tow.

Rouge Engineering used to list a hitch and matching cat-back exhaust for the Cooper S on their webpage, but it's not there anymore.

Trailers

I have an S. I usually take a small trailer to events.

There are several options for an MC and fewer for an MCS.

MINIFINI.com has a system that will cost you about $500 plus installation.

Others are at:

Another Source

Abe, aka, The Junkman at Thejunkman@comcast.net, is a nationally ranked MINI autocrosser and makes hitches for the MCS to tow a smalll trailer to carry wheels and storage for other necessities to autocross and track events. He charges about $250.00.

Many people buy the trailers that are available from Harbor Freight and adapt them to their needs. Get the larger wheel option, if you do.

Abe The Junkman is out here in Washington State. But currently he is at the Fontana Pro Solo and the San Diego NT. Email him for pictures of his hitch. But it may be a little while before he gets back to you.

How about this:

And yes, it pulls just fine! Way better than my old GTI Rabbit.

So what's the hitch? Photo Please?

O.T. Nice boat. I had a NACRA 5.2 back in the late 70's and a Stilleto 23 shortly after that.

hitch

I have seen a photo of that catamaran / MINI S before.

I THINK he is using one of these.

http://user.mc.net/~jdewey/MINI/Trai...l_Hacker_1.jpg

They are now available only in Stainless Steel, and will fit an MC or an MCS from what the manufacturer told me.

John: The one thing that held me back from buying a MINI was that I wouldn't be able to tow my motorcycle around. I almost bought a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon until someone sent me this link:

http://www.nationalroadtrailer.com/m..._trailers.html

There are others out there, but this one was the best suited for my MINI. I ordered my MCSC last week! I wonder which toy will arrive first?

Happy hunting!

Kristin,

Can you drop me a line when you've tested your trailer? I want to be able to tow my motorcycle to the Dragon this May but don't know which trailer/hitch is better.

Sam,

Absolutely! As soon as I receive mine, I will post a review; however, it may not be in time to help you. Micia isn't even in production yet, so I won't get her until the middle of May (So, the MA at Momentum promised). Also, keep in mind that I am a novice at towing anything and have no particular mechanical skill. Maybe it would be better to see if I can put you in touch with someone who currently drives a MINI and owns the trailer.

Here is the website that shows the trailer being towed by a MINI, but it doesn't mention any modifications that may need to occur. It is pretty pricey, but I am already saving up for the custom paint color to match Micia.

Trailer hitch fo MCS

Check out your owners manual, I don't know what the 2006 book says.

I have a 2004 MINI Cooper S. On Page 76 of the owners manual under
"Determining cargo limit" it says.
6. If your vehicle will be towing a trailer.....

The 2005 book has the same statement but I think it is on page 87.

There are currently no "commercial" hitches available for an MCS anywhere in the world.

For the MC, in the UK MINI sells a hitch. In the U.S. Dalan sells a hitch.

For the MCS there are two available from small fabricators, or you can build your own, (have one made). There is also a member in Toronto that had a 1 1/4 receiver hitch attached to the bottom of the battery box.

Here is a web page that covers the options.

I found a fellow that has a good looking set-up that I think he wants to market. I hope to eventually talk my wife into our getting a trailer too. Skis, Mountain Bikes, autocross wheels, camping stuff, etc. No roof noise, more aerodynamic. I don't think he'd mind sharing his email address;
