thinking of buying a mini

hi i am new to the site. i currently own a 1994 mazda rx7 but i am being forced to sell due to illness. i was wondering how easily it is to modify a mini. How quick can these cars actually be. i don't know much about them but am very interested and am thinking of buying one. if anyone has any specs on their modded mini could you please list them. any info would be much appreciated.

Hey, Moe! Hey Moe! Nuk, nuk, nuk, nuk!

I had a '93 Rx-7. Man, wudda stoopid-fast ride, and it always put a smile on my face--after I realized that I wasn't crashing!

An MCS is a great choice! A blank canvas, too! Wunna know how easy to mod? Stick around! Also, check out minimania.com.

Let us know what you're getting.

moe,

Welcome to NAM

Where are you located? There are some good people on here to buy from and have work done by. Look at the sponsors list at items for sale and install?

I have a few mods done to my 03 MCS. It STILL isn't fast enough (and never will be). If it can't do like 180 in 7 seconds it aint fast enough.

Check out the drivetrain performance mod forum Like most cars it all comes down to how much you want to spend. There is a twincharger kit (turbo before supercharger) that is putting down about 250*hp at the moment, and I think that one owner said they have an R32 and an EVO under their belt. That kit is about 6K and currently is the high end of whats availiable for the mini. Moderate tuning can get you to 200hp pretty easy (ECU, intake, exhaust, pully) and should run about 3K(?) or so depending on what parts are used. There is always the Works package which is about 6K that puts down 210hp, and keeps all parts fully under warranty.

So even at these early stages there are a lot of options to consider. I've heard rumors that there will be a stock turbo sometime in the future as well.

im located in southern illinois (carbondale ,SIU, go salukis). thanks for the info. i will check it out. anybody have the mc40 edition. its looks really sweet. im not looking for a drag car or anything, just something with some power and good handling. my rx7 has a lot of both just a little to pricey for a college student (twin turbo rotary is a b**ch to work on). just a good autocross car or something to play with on the twisty backroads. performance wise i see a lot of packages. are these a good deal or are they overpriced.

if you want a good autox car, the MINI is one of the best, south of an Elise. it's incredibly easy to mod an S to upwards of 200hp. make sure you check out the Detroit Tuned website for a good inventory of stuff that can take the MINI from cool car, to fast as *****

Welcome to NAM. Sorry about your illness. I too had an RX7 (1993) and loved it (despite that dumb tail). Asymmetrical details were such a pleasure to behold. Of course the performance was superb. It was not suited to a crowded downtown setting where I lived and worked so I sold it when it was a year old. But I can imagine it being quite pleasurable to drive around Carbondale. Yet the MINI is much more versatile overall--superior as an only car and, as others have already stated, easy to modify. Very best wishes.

Moe - don't mean to pry, but what kind of illness would allow you to drive a Mini but not an RX7? Sorry, just confused.

Yeah I love the look of all the RX series, and in some respects the RX8 is a MINI competitor in that it is a sporty car with a sizeable back seat, and great interior styling.

But all the rotaries are/were gas hogs. Darn shame. If the RX8 got 20mpg I would probably be driving one.
