New MINI deep in the heart of Texas

Hi Guys,

f/25/Dallas

Just got my mini a couple weeks ago and it's almost broken in. I love Love LOVE it. I feel so cozy in it when I'm driving it, like it's hugging me, like I'm wearing a MINI suit.

One question though. I'm about to hit 1000 miles and I've heard from some people that it's good to change out the oil around that time just in case there are metal shaving from breaking in the engine. Any opinions?

My opinion is that you need to post some pictures first!

Welcome and Congrats!!! Some people change their oil more frequently than others, so I would say it's a personal choice for you...

Mine just went in for it's first 10K service (first oil change) yesterday.

Thats one of the questions around here that seems to have endless opinions. If you're worried about it then do it, its cheap assurance (sp?). I on the other hand never really worried about it and have only done oil changes when the computer tells me its time to do so. Currently I'm at just over 70,000 miles and still have about 2500 miles until my oil will be changed for the 4th time. Either way, keep motoring .

Oh, yes we need pics..... and congrats, and welcome to NAM:smile:

I'm going to change mine after the break in period. It sure can't hurt.

Congrats on the purchase of a new MINI! She (he) sounds like a beaut! I love the contrasting roof and mirrors! I saw an EB/B roof and mirrors, but I haven't seen the white yet! Can't wait for you to post a picture!

Congrats, again!

Remember that your engine is equipped with an oil filter. In the event that there were metal shavings, they would only make it to the filter once before being trapped. Anything too small to be caught by the filter is really too small to cause any problems.

If it makes your brain feel good to change the oil after 1000 miles, go for it, it can't hurt.

Have you checked out MetroplexMINI.org? Its a great site for us local D/FWers. I frequent that and this site and MINI2 all the time.
