How long...

4 weeks and counting
Ordered MCS June 4 at MINI of Sterling (Va.) and was told delivery would be in 6-8 weeks. Four weeks now gone. Car still "scheduled for production," so assume 6-8 week delivery-to-owner estimate not valid. Used M3 off the lot is getting more enticing as summer progresses and current aging rattletrap depresses.

I ordered mine on May 25th and drove her home on the 25th of June! I bought an '05 Mini Cooper in Liquid Yellow with a black top and mirrors and black bonnet stripes. I ordered the Premium package and special ordered the 16 inch 5 spoke wheels with high performance run-flats.I think of the Italian job every time I look at her. Her name is Maria and I figured buying her would be my mid-life crises purchase. I will keep her a long time.

Well to make a small update to my situation (ordered on June 11th). Production began on the 17th, was finished on the 25th, and was finally loaded onto a boat on the 1st. I should have it around the 20th now. So at least for me, the six week estimate was quite accurate.
And yes MINIUSA.com is behind on updates by two days. As has been said, your MA will have the most up-to-date info.

I had my name on the waiting list at 3 different dealers. Each one said that it would take about 6 weeks once the car was ordered. Here's how long it actually took:
4/14/05 Received production number
4/18/05 web site says "on order"
4/29/05 web site says "scheduled for production"; phone says "estimated completetion date 5/6/05"
5/10/05 web site says "awaiting transport"
5/23/05 web site says "en route"
6/17/05 web site says "at distribution center"
6/20/05 paperwork says repair was scheduled (discovered this on 7/7/05)
7/06/05 web site and phone still says "at distribution center" but car is actually at the dealer. I will pick it up tomorrow.
12 freakin' long weeks!!!!
edit: I picked up the car today, 7/7/05. Looking over the paperwork, I discovered why there was a delay of about 2 weeks or more. Apparently there was some damage to the front "nose" and BMW had to get it repainted. Too bad they didn't give me the option to just replace it with the aero bumper!

I've got a VIN - Whoo Hoo!
"Scheduled for production" after 2 weeks. The sales rep said it usually takes 8 weeks once it's scheduled. That would put my delivery date at about labor day weekend. My annual trip to Cape Cod is on Sept. 10. If the timing is right, I could break the car in travelling to the east coast & back - SWEET!
