Auxillary output - another method?

Is there any to put an auxillary output? I was deciding whether or not to get the FM/AM & CD or the FM/AM & cassette. Is it possible to hook up your own auxillary output by hooking up a line? Or you have to go through the dealer which I don't want since they seem to quote very high prices on accessories. I don't have an mp3 player, but i know in the future I will, after I finish paying off the car.

There are a couple of ways to go...

The Aux Input is a $40 option, don't know about installation. It hookes into the conector that plugs into the back of the stereo. Is says AUX on the front when you use it! This will take audio from any source. There is also an iPod interface that is more expensive. The nice thing there is that the buttons on the steering wheel control the track, and some stuff displayes on the head unit.

Good luck!

ps, either of these can be added after you get the car.....

My dealer wanted $230 installed. I bought it myself for $40. I will be installing it soon. The folks on here who have done it say its an easy job... looking forward to trying it myself.

There's a "How To" at this site. I find this how to section very usefull.

Motoringfile.com

The Aux Install is in the interior section.

Matt

There's an excellent How-To section at Mini2 as well.

My God people, the installation is the simplest thing in the world, takes 1 minute and NO tools. You pop the cover underneath the steering wheel off (its on hinges and just pops on and off) and then take the aux input and plug it into the back of the radio! That is it! You then of course can mount the jack if you want (which takes drilling 1 hole and screwing in 2 screws), and you have the advantage of mounting it anywhere you want (as opposed to the dealer who will mount it where they want to). How a dealer can charge $160 for that is beyond me.
