New 05 Yellow MCS

Just picked up a new MCS for my wife, replacing an M Roadster since we are now starting a family. Fun car to drive, did not think I would enjoy it this much. But...I am getting a really weird noise, I hear it wth the windows open, it is sort of a metal on metal sound mainly in 1st and 2nd gear, not a grinding, more like a high pitched squeal (if you can imagine metal being cut on a lathe) sorry for the lame description. Anyway, the car is 2 weeks old, and hopefully this is something simple. It seems to start happening after the car is warm.

If anyone has any ideas would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance

you might want to try posting in the other forums as this is usually used to introduce yourself. I wish I could help, but I have a CVT. I hope you figure it out. You can also do a search to see if anyone has had something similar.

Welcome and congratulations. Also, sorry you already have a problem. Noise like a lathe in 1st and 2nd does not seem characteristic and your description makes it seem like something that should be looked it sooner than later. Too bad. Try not to get discouraged with the time it takes to go through the Forum archives. When you find what you want it's worth it.

Known problem w/later '05s

Actually, do a search on here, I don't remember the exact thread. We had the same problem, had to take it in three times until they got it fixed (ours needed a new belt). Tell your service department to look through the August Technical Service Bulletins they get from MINI corporate. It talks about loosening the alternator bolts, tweaking the tensioner and replacing the belt.

If you can find the thread on here, there's literally over 100 comments about it.

If you didn't choose to address it, it continues to get worse/louder until the children and animals on the street run away when they hear you coming!
