Ordered our MINI today

Technically I shouldn't post this here as I am in third gear..

We ordered our MINI today. Sold the Stratus at CarMax and then went straight to D&R. If you have a trade make sure to go to CarMax! I was treated with respect and recieved a good price for my used car.

I know I vented frustrations about them not having cars in stock. I was afraid of the order process. I have got to tell you that I was wrong! Richard (our MA) and Ken were extremely helpful. The order process is all but painless. The only pain is waiting for your custom MINI to be born and delivered! John came over and talked with us and we feel like we are already a part of the D&R family.

Ken said we should have official word from BMW/MINI Finance on Monday and a build number that afternoon! Now for the wait for a building to start, and off to paint. Then to the port and onto a boat. I want to track it all the way accross the pond!

I can't wait to go motoring with the good folks from MINICCI.

I look forward to getting asigned a build week.

Here is our MINI:

2006 MINI Cooper
Astor black body roof and mirrors
Chili pack
Sport pack
Rear Fog Lamp
Xenon headlamps
Black Leatherette
Anthracite dash and doors
On board computer
3 spoke Multi Function
CD player

Ideas for Future Mods:
Actual Size Decal (already have and will install before leaving D&R)
Mighty Stripes Offset Racing Boot, Roof and Bonnet stripes in Frost
Chrome Mirror caps (possible or we may paint the black ones Silver)
Aero Kit (only if I can retrofit the chrome grills)

We will give production week as soon as we hear back from Ken and Richard. We may have a December car.

Congrats on your decision

Goto www.gbmini.net and check out Ian's blogs from Feb of this year as he documents tracking of his MINI.

Now I am working on a "Black" CD for the drive home. MIB theme by Will Smith, Black Cat by Janet Jackson, Back in Black by AC/DC, Long Black Train by Josh Turner, and the only non "Black" song so far.. I can't Drive 55 by Sammy Hagar.

Any other suggestions?

The song "Black" by Pearl Jam is a good one, but not so suited for spirited driving I wouldn't think =) Nor really is "Long Black Train", well, maybe slightly more than PJ's song, but still not on par with AC/DC's offering =)

You could play some songs from Metallica's "Black" album hehe. And they have an earlier song called "Fade to Black". I'm sure there are plenty more that I can't think of just yet =)

Don't you mean "Loosers who killed Napster"?

Though that is a good suggestion. I guess I will do a search for "Black.mp3"

Then go and buy the disk. WalMart.com lets you custom mix CD's and then they will burn it for you.

It is not like I don't have a 6 week wait to build and cross the pond!

DOH! How could I forget "Black Hole Sun", or "Black Velvet", great songs =) Oh, and I think "Alannah Myles" was the first one to make "Black Velvet" a popular song, not familiar with Etheridge's version.

Congrats on your order!

I have to agree, placing the order was a pleasure. Mine was ordered last Friday. The only difficult part now is waiting for the MINI to arrive. I've lost count of how many times a day I visit the owner's lounge and call ASK MINI :impatient.

Congratulations - waiting is the hardest part. But driving it is priceless!

BTW, is that a 2005 or 2006? I think our build week (35) was the last week of 2005s...

Congrat. Can I ask you some questions? I assume you haven't paid a dime for the order yet, how does the dealer give you an order comfirmation and the final price? I am always afriad of after waiting for months, then the dealer decided to jack up the price if demand is high at the time of delivery, then it would either be money wasted of time wasted? Also, did you have to pay any markup if you don't mind me asking? Thanks and good luck with your new baby.

you did not ask ME, but...

At Westchester MINI, I put down $500 to reserve a slot in a particular production week (fully refundable; while I thought about what packages/colors I wanted) and then another $500 when I placed the order for real.

I'm assuming all this good-faith money really is that: that they will stick to MSRP, which is what they quoted me.

Still, the paperwork says (paraphrase) "price does not include dealer prep fees", so if they jack up the price by tacking on a fee they did not explicitly mention, I'll be pissed, but I'll probably pay it. (After all, I don't want to walk away from my MCS!)

We put $1,300 down on the MINI. D&R is known as a greaat MINI Dealer they only charge delivery and state mandated fees. All were shown to us up front when we put the $$ down. The only thing we have to do is to sign the final loan papers that disclose interest rate etc.

Congratulations. Excellent specs. Should be a beauty.

Part of the MINI experience seems to be the anxiety of waiting. You may even return to the dealer a couple of times to get your fix of MINIs and see another color combo you like--called "Waiting for MINI neurosis 2C".

PS: During your wait you might consider the theme music from the movie "Black to the Future".
