MCS Ordered today

Ordered my Mini S today from Classic Mini in Ohio and got a delivery date approx End of Nov.
I'm in southern Oregon (Medford) and will be flying to Ohio to pick it up and drive back for the break in.
Specs;
06 Mini S Auto trans.
Dark silver/light silver top
Premium/Sports
Chrono Pack
Harmon Kardon
Price $26600.00 No sales tax in Oregon.

Question:
I ordered it with the chrono pack but am thinking of dropping it for the JCW air intake and am wondering if it is worth the extra $450 to order it or can it be bought elsewhere for less and is it difficult to install it myself? Is the extra claimed HP there?

Also for those who have driven the drive what would be my best route coming back to S. Oregon North through Idaho or South through Nevada via Reno? Looking for the best drive since November weather might be lousy. I'm thinking Nevada cause I can let er go. How much miles before I can open it up?

I can't wait! I'm really excited!!

That sounds like a nice car. As far as the JCW airbox goes I'd want to listen to one before I bought it. If it's too loud for your tastes that's a lot of money to throw away. Induction noise can be quite tiring on a long drive.

As far as routes west go I'd recommend taking the southern route & then head up the coast.

Good luck with your new S.

[QUOTE=Outbackbob] How much miles before I can open it up?[QUOTE]

Isn't breakin a minimum of 1250 miles?

1,250 miles and then a gradual increase over the next 500 - 1,000 miles. Also no full throttle for the first 1,250 miles either. But neither of these restrictions are a big deal. There is still plenty of preformance available. Keeping it under 4,500rpm does not limit the top speed on public roads as that would put you somewhere around 100 mph.

On your cross country jaunt remember to keep varying you speed. No cruise control! Get off the highway and explore the by-ways. They are much more fun anyway.

The breakin period is so short compared to the life of the car. It is a small price to pay.

Yes the JCW box adds HP. Its basically the upgrade kit from 04 to 05 JCWs. No its not loud at all below 4500, you wont know its there compared to say Alta. Above 4500, yes you will know its there. Chrono packs adds gauges ... air box adds power

Thanks for the welcome!
I changed the color to Black Top kept the dark silver body.
I'm going to tint the windows so I thought it would be a better look with the black pillers, moon roof etc. Decided to keep the chrono pack simply cause I like the speedo in front of the steering column.
Nix to the JCW box maybe play with some after market air stuff later.
I've alsways used K&N filters and may just do that with stock box

Now I've got to unload my 04 F150 Lariat.
I'll be able to make the monthly payments just on the gas money I save, $65 to $70 and rising just to fill that puppy!!

About the break-on. new '06 CVT on Friday. No problems with speed or pickup, I have gotten nowhere close to 4000 rpms thus far and am having a blast!!!! Though I am not driving in steptronic mode until after the break in period. If this is what is happening during the break-in period, I can;t wait to see what happens afterwards.

Okay, gotta defend the Alta CAI. I run this and at highway speeds and normal town driving it is barely noticable. When you stomp on the throttle you can hear it but it is almost undetectable under usual driving patterns. Once you have it for awhile you even begin to forget it is there unless you really stomp down on the gas.

Also it is way more affordable compared to the JCW intake. You can install yourself with the NAM instructions in under 2 hours. Also according to Randy Webb it tests as the best hp gain of any CAi currently available.

Have to move a Gas Guzzling monster like that? Heck if you have to move anything for any reason, Private sale is best. But in todays market you should also consider CarMax. That is how we got rid of our Stratus.
