2005 vs 2006?
Hi i will be test driving this weekend. I have a question, the dealer i am talking to is trying to sell me a 2005. they said thats what they have on the lot and the 2006s would take a while. anyhow, i figure hes just trying to get rid of the older models.
should i consider a 2005? i know ill probably lose a lil more value in the long run but maybe i can get one cheaper than a 2006. im also wondering why he still have those? are the 2005s filled with bugs or something i dont know about?
any help would be great
thanks

The 2005's are the best built MINIs to date. I wouldn't have any hesitation about purchasing one.
The changes for 2006 are mostly related to different colors and making the JCW tuning kit available from the factory on the Cooper S.
If you can find a 2005 that you're happy with and drive it off the lot, I'd go for it.

Price changes for 2006
- Cooper S hardtop is $200 more
- Sport and Premium packages are each $50 more
- Metallic Paint is $30 more
- Body color dash went from being a no charge selection to a $200 option

Don't want to repeat what everyone has stated already, but it might be worth mentioning (if you're not already aware) that while the 05 and 06 are VERY similar with minimal differences, they are quite different from 02-04 models.
05 saw the dawning of a few major advancements (although not all prefer them)
- LSD option
- Different gearing for more acceleration
- 7 hp
- Clock position
- Apparent overall improved fit/finish (My car does NOT vouch for this - the dash buzz/rattle has been "tackled" twice and it dodged both attempts)
- New xenon headlight design
- New steering wheel design
- Chrono pack? Correct me if I'm wrong.
Hope this helps you understand what you'd be buying with either an 05 or 06 model.

As of last Monday, Morristown Mini (here in NJ) at 3 2005 MCS's sitting on the lot waiting for sale at MSRP.... Not sure how many MCC's because I was only looking to buy an "S". They didn't have the right options for me so I went and ordered one. They were totally loaded and I think there was a purple one and a yellow one.
BTW the yellow looks really nice but as of 2006, yellow is only available on the MCC. I would have gone with the yellow if that wasn't the case but instead i got a PW
