Test drove my first MINI

I test drove my first MINI saturday night. What a great drive. I drove a 02 mc because they didn't have a 06 in stock. Is there much of diffence in the way the 02 drives and the way the 06 drives? And does anyone else feel like the shifter is a bit large? The MA I spoke with was great he even offered to eat the $500 increase without me asking. Of course I was told not to tell anyone shhh. I plan on placing my order as soon as I get back from my vacation next month.

The newer once have a litter shorted gearing so they might feel quicker. The suspension is a bit more compliant in the newer car too, but depending on the 02's mileage, you never know. I think based on a quick test drive, you certianly got the feeling.

Yes, the shift **** feels huge at first, but in a weird way, you get used to it quick and I really like it, until I got a Whalen shift **** which I like even better.

If you're talking about the non-S Cooper, yes, there are some fairly substantial differences. The newer cars have less road feel (not a good thing, in my opinion), a new transmission, and generally feel much more solid. If you liked the '02, you'll probably love the '06!

I noticed a difference between my '04 and '06 mc. The '06 seemed to be running at a higher rpm on the tach and gear pattern seemed stiffer/closer together. When I asked the mech at the dealer, he was surprised "that a woman" would pick up on that because it is a subtle difference. It turns out that the gear box was changed a little bit. That accounts for the slightly higher rpms, tighter shift pattern and lower engine noises. All in all, I am still very happy with it. The mpg is about the same, depending on where I am, I can squeeze almost 35 mpg on a good day. Flora Blue
