Wow, my enthusiasm for the MINI while not any less certainly has been shaken after a venture into the inner depths of NAM I found out things that perhaps I'm not sure I wanted to know.
1. The MINI is a "Chick" car
2. The MINI is a "gay" car
3. The MINI is ignored on the road, people don't see you.
I'm still thinking about a MINI, I enjoy so many things about it from the very cool company site, the local dealer site, the very quick response to an email I sent to MINIusa.com, the enthusiasm I have yet to have for just about any vehicle, but man, what else is there that I have yet to encounter? :impatient

WHO CARES????
It's your money ... Your ride ... Your pride and Joy ...
and you don't have to give two hoots to the wind about what anyone else thinks ... unless your insecure and need validation from others. If you need validation from others, than perhaps the youfication idea of a MINI isn't for you?
Think FUN!

This car is the most fun car I have ever owned! Enough said.
However...
It is my car, so I don't really care what others think. If they want me to drive something that fits their definition of the "proper" car, they can buy it for me--and then I might think about driving it.
The comment about the "chick car" always gets my wife laughing(so that answers the comment about being a "gay" car). My wife says "chicks" notice me now that I have the MINI.
As for being ignored on the road, I don't see that as being true. I have more problems with people running off the road, across the centerline, etc because they are looking at my MINI. At some intersections with a lot of traffic I have even had problems with people slowing down to look at the car, thus bunching traffic up so I can't pull out. Yep, we're ignored!

who cares...if an individual needs some big effing truck or car or SUV or boat, etc., etc., etc. to validate his masculinity or self worth then there is something seriously wrong with him and not you.
just motor and enjoy the drive!

The MINI is an "everybody and everything" car. It is not relagated to one group type or walk of life. The MINI is most certainly not ignored on the road, just ask those who have been in the middle of a pack of cars and get signaled out for a county buget increase, but it will fit into blind spots (esp. when people don't setup their mirrors right) and there are other folks on the road who don't pay attention.

Not at all.
People can think whatever they want.
Stereotypes abound.
My MINI is-
Not a "chick car"
Not a "gay car"
And my MCS kicks butt (when I want it to).
And I get regular attention from friendly strangers that wave to me (my MINI).
I never have felt ignored.

I'm proud that MY MINI IS a chick car! And I'm proud to be a chick!
I am also proud that 3 very secure guys have driven Malibu Stacy.
MINIs just plain rock! For girls, guys, and everyone in between. Let's motor!

2. See #1.
Here's the deal. The MINI is a tremendously fun car to drive (especially with the JCW tuning kit!). I'm not ignored, I get lots of looks as I cruise around with the top down, I get questions at the fuel pump, and the lady at the drive-through post office today told me about the MINIs she and her daughter own.
Top down, this car is the best driving experience I've had since I had a motorcycle. One of my passengers today, a former biker, also remarked that the ride was like being on a motorcycle.
So go your own way - who cares what a bunch of mouth-breathing sedan-driving clones think!
And if you strike out with the ladies, well, you'll know in the MINI you can always bat from the other side of the plate.

I agree with everyone so far.
No matter what car you buy someone isn't going to like it.
I went through this when I first got a Miata. "Dude, that's a gay car." Great, my "gay" car just dusted your 5-series BMW!
(It happened once, don't ask me how)
This last weekend, I attend my first club event with CMMC. I rode along with Steve (Hi, Steve!) and when we were parking to go to lunch, this hairy "manly man" said, "Does everyone have one of those?" followed by a derogatory, "Why?" Steve's only response: "Because they're fun!" And this guy was driving in a minivan!
Seriously, if you're looking for some validation from each person you run into, you might as well crawl in a hole. If you like it, then that's all that matters.

Of course we buy MINI's to show our individuality. Some of us buy Hot Orange MINI's to really show our individuality!
