No Love for Alloy Patina?

Just something I've noticed browsing through pictures and whatnot on the site - nobody seems to opt for the alloy patina dash trim (standard on MCS).

I'm just curious why...trying to decide between it and anthracite.

I have the alloy patina - I like it . It is a "standard" item - alot of people like to pay extra for the anthrasite(?).

To each his, or her, own

Had alloy patina in my 02 S. It chipped easily and looked "fake" to me. My 04 S had Anthracite. It held up much better and was easier to care for. Go look at both in person. The pictures just don't tell the story in my opinion.

It's a personal preference thing . . .

It comes pre-scratched...to me, it looks like the bottom of a frying pan.

Anthracite, anthracite, anthracite!!!

it looks fake, its supposed to be brushed aluminum, but its painted on and looks cheap.

silver or anthracite (or JCW if you can afford it) is the way to go.

Anthracite (and the solid silver) are no-cost options. People choose anthracite not only for the dash, but also because it comes with the other cabin trim pieces (downtubes, door pulls, instrument rings etc.) in anthracite instead of standard silver.

To me, the alloy patina looks too fake. It looks exactly like what it is: painted plastic trying to look like metal.

Gotcha - I looked at alloy patina in 2003 and seem to remember liking it...but I was also only glancing in an MCS sitting in the showroom.

I like the fake look of the alloy patina (I also like cute girls in vinyl miniskirts so go figure). It's the original BMW MCS dash color so that ought to count for something. Not as clean as silver, sinister as anthracite or colorful as body colored dashes, but somehow it just looks right on an MCS.

I thought the patina looked great, kinda industrial looking. I almost ordered it. But then I saw the CR interior to match the exterior. That with the chromeline interior and CR shift **** really set off the interior. Love it! When I order again, it will be color matched to the exterior.

We had the patina in the 03, thought it was okay at first but in the end liked it less as we owned it. Got the anthracite on the 05 and love it - its a nice neutral with some life/fleck in it, and we much prefer having the charcoal downtubes and what not; we have the lapis seats and carpet and feel that is enough color and contrast in the interior w/o getting too busy for our taste. The dash color really depends on the other interior colors, as well as the car color, too IMHO.

I like the look of the alloy patina but hate that it has a matte finish. Reminds me of running your fingers along a chalkboard. I'd prefer it more if it had a substantial clear coat.

I chose the silver dash trim on our '06 MCS, liked in the '03 MC and decided to keep to the same

I think the Alloy Patina looks gorgeous! I've seen many interior surfaces and the Patina looks more stunning to me than any other.

Can't wait to get my Mini with alloy patina dash!

Not that I care, but since it is the MCS-only finish, it will be more sought after by collectors in the future, and I doubt that my particular 2003 MCS will ever be sought after by any collector. . .

I wish I had a dime for the number of times I've had people say " jeez , who put their feet on your dash board and scratched it up like that?" bck in June of 02 when the car was made , it was the only option. Amazing the things you can do with an orbital sander...........

it's no charge for the anthracite dash. IMO, the brushed aluminum look looks really fake. it also looks dirty to those who dont know what it's supposed to be. but it could be alot worse. sorry for those of you who have the alooy patina dash, dont mean to try and rip on you guys, just my opinion.

The reason I didn't get Anthracite was because it reminded me of an old black sparkle drum set I used to own.

I like the subtlety of the matte finish of the patina.

I have the anthracite and it was an option at no extra cost (I think only the anthracite roofliner is extra $ - I have that too and recommend it - looks great!).

I've seen both and was very unimpressed by the alloy patina as it looked very fake to me too and it also has a "cheap" feel to it IMO. Had I the $ I would have gone for the JCW dash or would have liked the option to have it bodycolor.
