Just Bought a 03 MINI good deal?

I just bought a silver 2003 MINI (CVT auto) with Premium package, sport package and cold weather package. It only had 24,000 miles on it and I got it for $15,400. Just wanted to hear what you guys think about the price I paid, I think I got a pretty good deal. I went with the automatic because I have a WRX and hate driving in D.C traffic with a 5 speed so I made the switch to the automatic MINI. Just thought I'd say hello.

That is about the same deal I got. 15,200 but double the miles. I was happy so you should feel happier

Welcome to NAM, mckayskater and SSRJIM! I think the prices you paid are very fair. Have fun motoring in your MINIs!

Wow. I am about to buy a new one, and I can say that your price was excellent. Those packages boost it a few thousand dollars above the standard enthusiast setups. Yet, you paid like less than most do for getting less than that.

that's a good deal. I think if i had one in the colour I liked I would have doen that and saved 6 grand or so!

I find that it really depends on your area. Here, they are in pretty high demand so the used prices aren't much less than new. I paid 18.5k for an 03 this past weekend (sunroof, dsc and whatever package has auto climate) with 38k miles.

I'm thinking the car you're describing would sell for $22k here...

I originally was looking at used MINIs but I ended up buying a new one because of the warranty/maintenance. But anything under $16k is a great deal. I was looking in the Philly and DC areas, so yes, sounds like you found a good deal. The used MINIs they had at the dealer were $18-19k and the salesman was pointing out that many non-MINI dealers sell them for even more, sometimes higher than new ones, and I'm sure there are suckers that fall for the price gouging.

That sounds like a very good price, but also proves how well the MINI holds its value.

I have also heard of used MINIs going to close to what new ones cost, and new MINIs going for over sticker price in some areas of the country. I guess the really GOOD cults cost a lot to get into!

Good luck with your '03!

You shouldn't have too much to worry about...
Get registered with Mini USA and find out about the car..(It's still under warranty until 2007 and you are well under the mileage...
The warranty is pretty solid man, I got a 2002 MCS and it just came out of warranty last week...(They fixed all without no hassles)
So enjoy your new ride...

Thanks for the heads up, I almost forgot that the limited warranty still had another year.

I recently bought a used '03 MCS BRG with Sport, Premium, and Cold Weather packages for 18k. It had only 11,000 miles. Came complete with the BBS 15s from Tire Rack and the original wheels included. I had been searching for 3 years. I am pretty happy. Now the big problem is finding (Man that was a close one. I am sitting in my office and I realized that it is raining outside. I had left my sunroof cracked to let the heat out. PANIC!! I got it closed bfore I had a rolling pool.) As I was saying now my biggest problem is finding a good service department near to me in East Tennessee. Any suggestions?

The service record I have from june 06 says service indicator on, perform warranty inspection 1. The CVT fluid change is under inspection 1 right?

Last weekend I just bought a 2004 electric blue MCS with 18,900 miles on him with the auto climate feature and prewired for Sirius for $18,950. The dealer had just marked him down from 22,500 when I arrived. From what I was told when I made an offer, the price that was listed was below what the dealership had in it. I tickled pink to finally have gotten my MINI!

That is correct, as I just had mine done during inspection #1 for my '03 Cooper CVT, too. By the way, WELCOME to NAM!! May all your MINI miles be as happy and fulfilling as mine have been.

Start a new thread when you have questions, but changing the fluid is highly recommended, it should cost much, much less than $1000 and you should try to get them to do it, but make sure they use the exact correct fluid. Personally I would buy the right stuff (do a search here on NAM) and pay for the labor. That way you know you have the right stuff.

I have heard that changing CVT fluid regularly is a way to increase the mileage you get out of it. Like every 25K or so. Make sure they use the special CVT fluid, it is not just regular AT fluid.

This is from somebody who reads a lot on these boards, not a CVT owner.
