I am placing ordrer tomorrow
Hi everybody, I have decided to order an MCS. My Wife and I agree on all the options except I wanted the MC and she is demanding the MCS. So the MCS it is. I went and drove one of the MCa and the MCSa cars and I do admit the extra power does rock. It feels like the MCS has a firmer ride too.
The only option I can't make up my mind about is the Automatic AC. Does anybody have anything good to say about the Auto AC option?
The dealer told me the JWC sport break kit is a very expensive option and not worth it if you do not race. They did tell me, when I asked, that I could put any options on the car myself if I wanted to. They wanted $500 just to install the Driving Lamps!

Rock on Cap'n!
Sounds like a really cool car! You'll love it!
I think getting the S is the right choice MOST ESPECIALLY if you have to get an automatic. It's not PC on NAM to disparage CVT's, but I drove one and I didn't like it.
Also, I'm the only NAM member that actually likes the Auto A/C. I think it is awesome. Just dial up 68 degrees and forget it. Winter or summer, it'll do whatever it needs to to to maintain that temperature. (I first had auto a/c in a Cadillac Seville, and learned to appreciate it there. I also learned to dislike fiddling with ***** every 5 minutes to keep a comfortable temp.)
You have a great spec, but here are two suggestions:
Euro Parcel Shelf...lots of upsides, no downsides, only $80
Auto Up window circuit www.gbmini.net far and away the best $50 you'll ever spend on the MINI

batgirl, you and my wife are very likely right about the S, who am I to argue with the missis.
Rawhyde, thanks for the auto up window circuit link, I like it! In fact I can't wait to start modifying my MCS. I just love to build stuff for cars. I had seen the Euro Parcel Shelf and I will definitely be ordering that too. It looks like it will just about triple the cell phone storage areas.

I do not want to step on anybodies feet but I prefer a supercharger and I prefer the looks of the body and headlights in the 06.
The 07's interior is very cool. The 07 will definitely be a better car in many ways (I am an engineer and I believe they likely have made great progress with the 07's redesign). I look forward to seeing the 07 when it comes out but I will probably be seeing it from the inside of my 06.

I agree w/ above; I love the Auto A/C; I like the looks of the 06 over the 07; and the Euro Shelf is an absolute MUST. I drove my 06 new last month w/o the shelf, and finally bought one, & put it in just before my trip to the gap. It's fantastic. You can put your Aux install on it if u want, even an Aux power supply if you need. etc etc. It's pretty convenient....in fact...not having the euro shelf...I think... is like...not having a little cubby hole in the door to put stuff...
The only caveat about the auto-up windows is, watch out if u have kids in the car b/c I don't believe there is a safety catch on it if something gets caught in the window?

I have done the install, so if you get in a pinch, I'll help you out.

Go to the DIY section on Motoringfile.com and you can download the instructions for the Driving Light installation. The circuit and switch are absolutely first rate, but the actual lights are mediocre. There are boosters of PIAA lights...I ain't one of them. I like Hellas and Cibie's.

OK, I will look into it. Thanks. Maybe I should not order the lights from MINI.

The auto AC broke while i was test driving a unit. It annoys a lot of people. It is good to maintain a set temperature however... what temperature is that? Its just as arbitrary as a analog dial that says hotter-colder.
the air filter is very nice though. That alone would make me consider it.
However, I have hands and they can turn on ac's. they also drive the car. amazing. Also, I worked in a bio lab for many years and I know that if you dont change the filter 2-4x a year you can be breathing a lot of icky bacteria. Mostly harmless though. but it might smell.
I think the cup holder is annoying. It is a bulky object that confuses the look and well, eh. Not my thing. So is the armrest as it slides back with the gentlest of movements. Probably not as bad with automatic though. . 17 inch rims are heavy and destroy strut towers... hm...
Limited slip differential is awesome for bad weather and for flying around turns.

I should be ording on Saturday. I'm also getting a MCS with sport pkg, LSD, Winter Pkg, three spoke wheel w/cruise, and maybe the upgraded stereo. Dark Silver with the black roof & black bonnet stripes and either all black or gray & black interior. Alot of people have said to get the rear fog light also.
I'm not to crazy about the redsign either. And I think you should stay away from first year models. The interior looks good except that speedo is huge.
I hadn't even heard about the Euro shelf.....I'll have to check it out.

welcome to NAM.
I have to chime in on the auto A/C...can't stand it. Very difficult to get what you want without changing fan speed. Still can't figure out how to use defroster without fan on full blast. (lower fan, and defroster shuts off). Fan is noisey and kicks in at full blast on auto setting.
Old analog works for me.

you should read about how the 17's and runflats damage the car's suspension towers. Grin and bear it. reality is good. Hope is a waste. I would have kept the 16's and runflats if not the jarring of the towers squishing the metal to death. the only recourse for 17's is to take off the runflats and also add strut tower reinforcement plates by M7 Tuning. This might help a bit it seems from the "bonnet" forum info.
I have a set of 15" Konig Rewinds and 205/60/15's awaiting their master in my garage.

yeah definitely! i am happy about this. also, the suspension towers are somehow (dont know details) fixed for the majority of people. The mushrooming isnt though as its the same body surrounding the suspension and the same struts/springs being used. I figured the plates from day 1 = happiness.
