I think it will be well worth your time and you won't regret the little get to know each other period.

THREAD HIJACK! I smell two stroke oil! Started my public road motoring on a Suzuki 90 back around 1971. Followed that up with a GT500, two GT550's, and RD400, before shifting to a GS1000S Cooley Replica, then a first year Katana 1000. Returned to the smokers with a 1985 RZ500 "smuggled" in from Canada. Rode that thing 14 years before selling it a friend here in town who now has three of them. Also had two YSR50's and an Aprilia RS50 as tiddlers before going motorcycle-less in 2002.

Hey, I got my car yesterday and spent the night an hour from the dealer, then drove it the rest of the way today. I was able to take it on back roads, through towns, highways, everything except dirt roads! This car is awesome! I'll post some pics tomorrow.

MINI motor break in experience

Glad to see you are picking up your MINI, being the first to drive it is most of the fun. I drove 109 mile or 2.5 hours to the dealer to pick up my MINI at the beginning of the month. Although everyone has advice about breaking in the motor, some realities hit hard. My dealer is on a very busy road, just to get out of the lot I had to kick the pedal and pray I didn't get rear ended. I did manage to keep the rpms < 4000. Second, driving 55 on the highway nearly got me killed. Mind you, the speed limit was 55 in that stretch and I didn't want to get pulled over with temp plates and temp registration (a whole other story for another day). Every driver who passed me felt it thier duty to remind me I was going too slow. Errrgh. Once the speed limit was 65 I was ever so careful about speeding up, under 4000 rpms. Then there were the hills on the drive home, which would put the motor under stress uphill, although coasting down hill was probably a good thing. So far, 400 miles in under a week and I don't think I did undo harm to the engine.

Enjoy the drive home from the dealership.

Don't worry Finn, you didn't do the MINI any harm. They told me to keep it under 4500 and 90 ao thats what I did! Mine had 9 miles on it when I got it. Now 355!
I added 2 pics to my gallery and how I accessorized my roof racks.

Spiffy roof rack let me know how it works for a kayak. I'm hoping to get a kayak rack next spring. Mind you all the subaru owners here laugh when I tell them I can get a roof rack. Ha! All the more reason to do it.

Spent the weekend motoring. 780 miles on the odometer and counting.

Hi Finn, My dealer said there were accessories available by MINI to carry kayaks, skis, etc. There is a rubber strip on top of the rack and he pulled it out a bit to show me the channel and the ends have little hinged covers to access the channel. The max load is 75kg or 163 lbs. I hate the look of thule or yakima racks, too fussy.

I had my MINI delivered to me. But my sales guy did it himself and no, he is not the typical sales car guy. He owns 8 MINIs himself... he loves the cars so I was pretty confident he was not going to do anything I wouldn't do that would be bad .... sounds like you might go pick it up and give yourself a break from the worry ...
