Help? R32, 53, 55?????

Is there a decoder ring as to what all of the R numbers represent? I see in many posts nothing but reference to these.

It would be great if there was a decoder ring like:

R32=
R33=
.
.
.
.
R56=

Thanks

A hard-top Cooper would be R50 ('01-'06). An MCS hard-top is R53.

The MotoringFile link mentioned by bigpmj above has it all.

So this gets a little confusing. Both R50 and R52 describe a base model MC. does it swtich to 52 after a certain year? So mayby 01-04 is R50 and 05-06 is R52?

No, R52 is the convertible -- in "MINI One, Cooper and Cooper S Convertible" the 'convertible' applies to all the models listed. So a hard-top MC is R50, an MCc is R52. Similarly, a hard-top MCS is R53, while the MCSc is R52.

Ahh, the convertible at the end of the R52 line is what I was missing.

I think it is all clear now.

Thanks

yes, until there's a significant redesign and retool like from 06 to 07 hardtop models.
