I'm here, welcome me.

Hi all!
I'm new around here, but now so new to the Mini Cooper. A '67 was my very first car (in 1993). I bought it at auction for $1000 and rebuilt it with my dad.
Tomorrow I am picking up what will be my second Mini Cooper; a Hyper Blue base model with something the guy at Asseal Motors calls the "Premium Package." This is a totally different car for me, as I am used to classics, but I am super excited.
Anyway, you'll be seeing a lot of me around here I bet. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Dude, you got a reason to be excited! Such an awesome car. I feel sorry for people who don't get to drive one . So, welcome to NAM and to all the excitement.

Thanks. I'm looking forward to taking it out this weekend. Maybe I'll do a little canyon run up near Malibu.

I see that a lot of people on the message board here are on a waiting list for their car. Why is this? My dealer had a decent selection on the lot to choose from. Are they harder to get in some areas?

Naw, I don't think they're in short supply. In my case, I just wanted to exercise the option of ordering a car and choosing each of seemingly hundreds of component and color choices. I ordered English leather seats, premium package with sunroof and a JCW tuning kit and JCW suspension (and lots more). Also, I had a roof-mount bike rack installed. IMO, Not a combination that any dealer would spec for a MINI. I'd think most folks interested in tuner suspensions and JCW engine tweeking would REALLY cringe to "drill holes" into the roof for an accessory rack.

I think MINI is about options and customizing to suit the tastes of the varied folks who love these quirky machines.

Welcome back to the mini/MINI world!

What I really wanted were the Rally lights and different wheels. My dealers was able to take care of that for me on-site.

It's not so much a "waiting list" as it is an inevitable delay while a car is being built-to-order and shipped over from the UK.

A large percentage of MINIs are custom-ordered - probably a higher percentage than just about any other car out there, excluding superexotics like the Zonda that are ALL custom-built.

Looking at the options on the car I ordered, I never would have found the identical car on a dealer's lot. I *might* have found one on a lot that was close enough for the dealer to mold/shape/tweak it into the exact car I wanted, but even that wouldn't have been easy.

Kept looking for a smiley face or a wink....something to say the beginning of your post was done tongue in cheek. Didn't find anything. Hmmm. So can I take it that your slave driving 28 year old self is anything other than "I'm here, welcome me" self indulgent arrogant man?

I like MINI's as much as the next person, but shouldn't it be the community that welcomes someone and not someone demanding the attention to be welcomed? Since there was no emoticon signifying otherwise I reserved the right to draw my own conclusions.

Welcome to the Tribe ma,

Many of us are classic British car owners too, so your BMC Mini affliction is well known to us. You'll find the BMW MINI to be as reliable as a German car but as with as much character as a British car, best of both worlds.

fred3,
I'm a very tongue-in-cheeck kind of guy. Sorry if I came across as an arrogant little punk, but I detest emoticons.
We all have vastly different personalities. If there wasn't that nasty stuck-up guy in The Karate Kid, there would also be no hero....
There, I used one.
