New MINI Owner

Hi, ive been lurking here for a few weeks a decided to join after finally ordering my first mini. Its also my first car with a manual transmission so im very excited, hopefully i should be getting some more info on when it will be arriving this week. I ended up with a basic MC, chili red, black top and black bonnet stripes, DSC, auto wipers and lights, and red interior stripe. Decided to keep it basic, stripped down, and on the cheaper side. Anyway, i have just one question becuase i only got to test drive the 2006 MC with the 5 speed. do the 6 speed MC's have some sort way of keeping you from shifting into R instead of 1st?
thanks

Welcome to NAM!

Sounds like a nice MINI!
My MINI is going to be my first manual car too, and I think all the MC's are 5 speed, I could be wrong though.

Yes theres a gate(you will feel resistances ) that you have to go threw to get to R

MC have 5 gears +R
MCS have 6 gears +R

Welcome to NAM
The car is a blast

yep, a little bit more of a "throw" to the left. After I bit, you get used to "feel" and realize the diff between 1st and R. No prob....

Welcome! Yeah, I've got a 5-speed; manual is definitely the way to go. I've driven auto trannies for so long, but it'll be hard to go back. I agree about the resistance; at times (e.g. on an incline, after a long time not starting ( I know, a sin)), the resistance is a bit strong. But just remember this old trick; from neutral, shift to 5th and then down to R; it eases the transition. Good luck and have fun!

so the 2007 MC does not have 6 speed standard? I thought the 2002-2006 had a 5 speed and for 2007 they changed to a 6 speed.

Oh...my bad. I forgot about the 07's. Yep; you're getting the 6-speed Cooper. Sweet!
