dilemma. please read first.
well this isn't really a question. i know this a mini enthusiast forum, so please bear with me haha
my dilemma is that i'm getting my first car preety soon (the one i'm driving righ tnow is breaking down constantly so :( ). I was always set on a 05/06 mcs. i love the mini, but for some reason, the s2000 intrigues me also.
So i was wondering (know that this is a mini forum) would get an s2000? insurance for such a young age is hard, yes i know, so would it be very burdeon owning this car.
Honda reliabillity and the performance of the s2000 is quite alluring, so please help me make a final choice haha.
ps: nearly every mini driver iknow loves there mini so :P
thanks.

Before I bought, I had narrowed my picks down to the S2000 & a tintop Mini. When I checked insurance rates the Mini was barely going to raise my rate while the S2000 would almost double it
Then Mini announced they were releasing a cabrio & that was all she wrote. Somehow I doubt a 2 year old S2000 would still bring a grin to my face like my Mini does

I really liked the S2000. Lots of fun to drive and as you said very reliable.
The difference to me is, I can haul 4 in the MINI. The MINI is every bit as much fun to drive and 2 good sized packs fit in the boot. The MINI is nowhere near as reliable but I've never regretted the decision. I think I really like the character.

Another consideration is the high revs you need for the S2000 to really show its muscle. It is a great car - dollar for dollar one of the best sports cars on the road. That being said I've heard many owner's complain how it isn't a good choice as a daily driver.
Also - if you're the least bit on the tall side forget fitting in the car comfortably. I'm 6' 4" and there's no way I can sit in the S2000 - our MINI Cooper S is entirely different. No problems with leg or head room. Granted I wouldn't want to be the person sitting in the back seat when I'm driving.
We've owned Hondas since 1996 and they're terrific, reliable, tough, and good resale. But if I had to choose between our MINI and another Honda I'd definitely go with the MINI.
Good luck!

What year S2k and have you driven it? Have you driven the Mini?
Just wondering what your take is, but if you haven't actually tried it I would, they each have their merits. My SO had an S2k a ways back and it was a blast, a real sports car feel and cockpit, great shifter and steering, rear wheel drive fun, and top notch fit and finish too - I wouldn't write it off if you could live with a little two seater like that.
Try 'em all, make out a list of atttributes and options that are important to you and I'm sure it will become clear which car of any suits you best.

The S2000 is a great car, but just not as all-around useful as the MINI. The MINI has an actual back seat which when put down, creates a great area for holding stuff for extended road trips. I've driven my MINI cross-country 8 times and it's amazing how comfortable it is. Good luck to you with your choice.
