new guy on the block
I was a PCA member for over 20 years driving a 400hp+ 930 Turbo. Now that i am collecting social security my wife insists that i slow down! With that thought in mind i bought my Mini Cooper S................she loves it and so do i! What she doesn't know is, i'm now ready to begin the quest for 250hp to the wheels! Can anyone recommend a mini speed shop on Long Island? I'm ready to go......HP,Handling,Brakes..the works. Thanks & great to be here By the way, it is a 2005 with 5k miles on it since 1 1/2 years ago. I think everything is now settled in enough for the fun to begin. MINI MILES TO ALL!

I can't help with the Long Island area, but 30 mi from NYC is Morristown Mini... I just got my '06 MCS there on Sat. and they really are a great dealership... I spoke with the lead mech. Erving for 15-20min and he suggested a turbo ontop of the SC along with a Mil-Tec (sp?) or Dinan exhaust, Alta pully (no more than 15% underdrive) and either an Alta or K&N intake.
Everything installed minus the turbo is ~$1500... the Turbo setup w/ all the goodies was ~$5K (vs $6k for the JCW kit) and the turbo was sup. good for a 100hp bump, or 250 or so at the wheels...
The same tech suggested NOT changing the springs or lowering the car as it makes the ride so harsh that the car corners worse (losing traction and skipping across the road)... but he did say bigger swaybars flatten the cornering more.
He also said that the Borla exhaust was a bit boomy.
I haven't had time to do my HW yet on this knowledge, so please keep me in the loop on what you learn.
BTW, I'm still an active PCA member with my 'slightly modified' 944Turbo track-toy.
HTH!
