OK, lets talk CM gas guage clicks-tics

Or not!

Seriously, if you have an ALL4 S steptronic automatic, I want to compare some notes.

Our CM is still low mileage, under 700 miles to date. The on-board is showing 24.7 average, I have figured manually 26+ and one tank at 21.5.

So, the topic line. How many miles do you get on a guage click/light tic. (What is the official name, anyhow).

I thought I was getting about 40 miles per click/tic on at least the top 3 clicks, but it is a decreasing progressive number per click/tic.

So, any thoughts, real or imagined?

Would like to hear from ALL4 and CM S models both automatic and 6 speed.

Anyone run it to the low tank alarm and calculate?

Don

Many variables with regards to your situation.

Ethenol fuel content varies by state, and the more ethanol in the fuel the lower your gas mileage will be. ( Not so green afterall )

Condtioners in the fuel this time of year also contributes to low fuel economy.

Longer warm up times for the engines.

In comparison our Honda Element AWD ranges from 21 to 24 MPG and yet is no where near as fun to drive.....

run to the last click

I have run it to to the last tick and I am averaging around 26 per on board brain

I keep forgetting to calculate it manually but suspects its not to far off , I believe I am getting over 300 miles on tank I think- around 27 mpg which I think is pretty good. Sad to say but i didn't buy the car for its fuel consumption...

Note fuel gauges are typically not linear by design - Folks really want it to stay "full" for a long time. GM was notorious for doing this , fuel gauge would drop of a cliff after a certain period - Now the MINI is not as bad but I think subjectively it does move a bit faster as it passes 6'o' clock

I'm curious about the 1/2 shown on the dial and if it is accurate. When I get there I'll note the miles to empty and try to see what it really means. I only have 90 miles so far.

I would not go by the number of lights left illuminated. To me the DTE is slightly more accurate and the gauge is optimistic like most cars, the MINI just represents it with cool little lights.

Gas gauges are not linear in readout because gas tanks are not boxes anymore, they have all sorts of weird shapes with nooks and crannies in them, in order to fit into the car and give the best weight distribution, crash protection and so on.

Your gauge will never be linear, you'll just have to get used to it.

I never run my car down to the last drop, once the red lights I get her filled up again. That way I also never have to worry about the accuracy of the gauge.

Thanks on DTE, I figured it out after giving it some thought.

Not looking for accuracy of the gauge, looking for how many miles folks are getting per click/tic on the Countryman Gasometer.

I think the first three are good for about 120 on my gasometer then off to the station I go. Premium is currently hanging at $3.29 or so, depends on where you buy in Denver....

I just bought premium at Costco (north Denver) a day or two ago for $3.01/gallon... If you do much driving that alone might make a membership worthwhile.

Yes, I am a hop away from Costco, have a biz membership association, will have to check it out... Thanks.

I have been hitting the Shell/KingSoopers 10cents per gallon deals off and on.

Still want to know how many miles folks are getting on the click/tics. Countryman clicks....

24.7 and holding

after a month of driving - its never moved from 24.7. i think it doesnt actually work. i fill up when it gets down to 1/4 tank and consistently get about 287 or so to that point.

DTE 156 when on the tic labeled 1/2. Computer is indicating 25mpg, but, mostly highway. Looks like I have to add weight to my foot to see if I can't lower that average.

I need to lighten the foot of the other driver, I have managed to raise the average.

The other driver has been in Texas all week, her Countryman.

Bill,

I believe your talking about the graphic by Mike of Aesthetic Creations, we took his Elemental Dragon and laid it into the Black Jack Flag graphic.

Next up might be a pure Chinese Dragon, we shall see.

Mike does great work, you just need lots of patience and work with him and his biz. He really loves to design fun stuff.

I had it custom made two years ago, I try to change it at MITM or AMVIV when the mood strikes me.

Thinking on what might go well on the Countryman, if the driver will let me mess with it.

Got 29.5 mpg on highway on way home from dealer last night. About 110 miles total. Was snowing like mad and granted I was at most going 65 for only short periods of time.

I'm getting consistently 26.4 MPG on the computer. I wait to fill up until it tic thing gets to red. Getting about 330-350 per tank.

My 07MINIS was getting close to 35 mpg and closer to 400 per tank.

I mostly drive highway miles. Have 1200 on the odometer now.

Solution is obvious

I think the solution here is pretty obvious, we need a rail accessory that holds two gallons of gas.
