I drove VW diesels for a lotta years. When diesel bumped $5/gallon in 2008, I sold a perfectly good Passat TDI to get the Clubman. Maintenance notwithstanding, you just have to run the numbers to see if the better MPGs actually save you anything. I'm well ahead in the MINI.

I used to own 2012 350ML BT, and I was getting between 28 - 30 MPG on freeway. The regular 350ML 4Matic is getting roughly 23-24 MPG, but the extra cost for diesel gas, $3k premium over petrol model, and urea additive every 10k miles make it not worth that little extra MPG gain. However, the torque was great for SUV, but too bad it was a lemon.

I really really hate the fact that my CMS cannot break 300 miles to a tank on regular driving. I rarely get to 300 mi, unless im pretty much hypermiling and my driving is 80% fwy.

Really defeats the purpose of having a small 4cyl car.. my wife's 300hp v6 infiniti gets 2 mpg less than my CMS. garbage.

I put on 100 miles a day, 50 each way to and from work. I'm averaging 27.4 mpg.

When my commute was 20+ miles of highway with some stop and go, my MPG was 30. Now that my commute is 5 miles I'm getting 23-25 MPG in a 2012 CMS manual.

30-32 MPG for a 40 mile commute to/from work, mostly 50-60 MPH; generally getting 350ish miles to a tank.

new tank of 93 and I am sitting at 18.0 now after 20 miles. I think something is wrong :(

It was dropping to 8mpg when I get on it from a dead stop. does that seem low?

I finally get 30 MPG as advertised on my CM automatic by cruising between 65-70 MPH for about 50 miles with mild to no wind gust. I get about 26-27 MPG when going above 70 MPH to about 80 MPH. Should have bought the CMS instead of Justa....

I just hit the 500 mile mark on my 2014 ALL4 after a month since delivery. Getting 18mpg from the dash and slightly improving each day. I'm not driving it enough to get a sense if something is wrong yet. 5 mile commute to and from the train in NYC and a few short weekend trips to LI so far.

I'm hoping the first real road trip with the Average Speed and MPG Reset will shed some light on this...

my average on fuelly has dropped below 22mpg. so much for comparing mileage estimates when purchasing a car.

I just filled up and noted 25 mpg on my last tank in a hilly area. It has seemed to be hovering just above 25 recently (only 24 when I bot it).

I am getting a consistent 29-30 MPG with a mix of city and highway out of my 2013 with Manual.

Traded my 2009 Ram that was getting 13-15 mixed.

No complaints.

I been getting from 30 to 35 with my cms fwd that's with some city and commutes on roads with speed limits from 35 to 50 some lights. most of the time in economy mode I will use the sport mode at a light once and a while just to feel it get up and go I do have and nm intake but that is it for mods.

Solid 33mpg on the highway is the best I can do. The car is non turbo with an automatic transmission and 6K miles on it.
It may do better after it gets more miles on it and loosens up a little.

A couple of observations:

  • In-dash MPG readouts are always optimistic.
  • They use varying amounts of history to do the calculation, so they won't settle down to any real number until you've driven 1000 miles or more.
  • Don't reset it at each fill-up!!
Measuring MPG on one tank of gas, or on one road trip really won't tell you anything real world.
Best way is to record the mileage today, then record every gallon of gas you put in for 6 months or so. Subtract the low mileage from the high mileage & divide it by the number of gallons.

Mike - 2002 Cooper S - 26.4mpg since last July, 7,000 miles,
