Center Console trim

So after two weeks of having the car, my wife points out to me that she thought the center console trim is supposed to match the door trim. I have the checkered center console trim, but the door trim is piano black. Looking at the configurator, it looks like it is supposed to match.

I don't mind this mismatch, I actually kind of like it. But I'm just curious if it was a mistake or not.

Conventional wisdom would say that's a mismatch.

Well.. MINI obviously thought MINI brand isn't conventional and the mismatch is perfectly normal!

There's a whole thread of outrage and amazement on this somewhere - but I'm too lazy to go find it. Look close at the configurator and you'll see that what you have is what you get.

I actually like it, so no outrage here. That is why I asked about it here instead of calling the dealer. I was just curious, because when you select the checkered trim on the configurator, it appears to graphically change the door trim and the center console.

That it does. Changes the door trim from dark anthracite to pianny black and the console from dark anthracite to checkered. Sneaky devils with their fine print and photo magic.

Yes, another member pointed this out too, & thanks to you, while it probably wouldn't matter either way, I obsessed about it & had time to change it to the standard trim.
Reasoning: the door trim will match the trim across the dashboard.
The checkered trim is very cool & should be on the doors & dash as well to tie it all in.

The configurator, which I call the "confuse-a-rator" made a whole lot of trouble for us when we attempted to save our configuration. When we went back to our saved configuration it had mysteriously changed on numerous attempts. Just had to sit down with our MA and plan it out.

Good to know I'm not the only one having issues with the Mini Configurator. I love website, but can't understand why it doesn't save stuff correctly. Hope to go to dealership tomorrow for a test drive. If all goes well, order will be placed. Exciting times!!

I went back and reconfigured after I noticed this on my car, and then read the description. I had assumed I'd get checked across all those surfaces. I LOVE the checkered trim, and it would have kicked much butt to have the doors and dash in check, as well. I'm okay with it, knowing it's not a "flaw" but not the best design choice IMO.
