Debris found in Oil Filter

During an oil change at 1,350 miles (sadly, 150 miles passed my planned interval), I found a rubber piece of debris lodged in the oil filter with a random o-ring inside the oil filter housing. The debris seems to be a piece severed from the o-ring. This o-ring is approx 1/2" in diameter and is certainly not suppose to be in the oil filter housing (pictures to follow). MINI is currently investigating the issue, but I wanted to pass my findings on for others to be on the look out.

Hope this is helpful.

Good thing it was rubber and not a piece of metal.. I had 200 miles on mine when the car got a sudden loss of oil pressure message, it was at the dealer for a few days.. they had to order a special tool to check the pressure, the tool replaces the oil filter cap for the pressure tests... who knows what they may have found inside.. I imagine there is occasional debris left behind from manufacturing, I'm waiting for mine to get past the break-in period to change my oil, I will be putting a magnetic drain plug in at that time also....

THis has happened to others, I remember reading threads like this.

I can't say for sure, and it may be bad advice, but it does look like it fits on the tube opposite it. Just a guess from HRM's butt.. (it talks sometimes)

That was my initial impression as well. After discussing this with Service/Parts, the diagrams didn't seem to support that theory. I'm trying to stay optimistic that it will be something that easy.
