It's a 3M stick-on cover so no need to remove the chrome ring (which is a royal pain to do). Just raise the hood, peel the backing, stick it on, profit. In the picture up there I haven't removed the protective film or seated it into position - I just slipped it on to gauge the quality/fit (and I'm super happy).
Looks better than plastidip. Lasts longer than plastidip. Isn't permanent.

Getting my transmission seal, transfer case seal, oil pump solenoid, water pump pulley and drive belt replaced.
Also flushing the transfer case and trans, putting in new fluids. Should run like a champ after that.
After that, the next step is to get my 3" exhaust pipe under the engine/trans re-done to get it a little tighter in there.
Looking for better clearance so i can lower about 2" more for a cleaner look.
At the same time add in another Mangaflow muffler to quite it done some more.
Then finally... get a CF hood and find a way to reduce more weight off the car. No real purpose other than I want to make a beast of a street car.

Installed a Wagner Intercooler on Weekend
I got an R60 last November. Mr R53 was taken out by a young lady turning left in front of me. She was held responsible. It was left drivable, but the insurance people totaled it. I sold the injured beast to a friend who rebuilt it so it lives on still. I just did not have the time or energy to do that myself. All the repairs were bolt on, it just took three months.
I looked around and ended up back in MINI so this makes my 4rth one. It has turned out to be a nice car / suv. We actually hauled a twin bed mattress flat to our daughters place with only a small bit hanging out the back. It will fit baby seats for the grand kids. I am getting similar fuel economy to the R53 in a bigger heavier car. I also like that the ALL4 drive reduces (kills) the under steer I was used to in the R53. It would be so cool to stick that AWD under a Roadster for autocross. It could be done. Actually the hardest part would be programming the damn computer. Metal bashing is easy by comparison.
As I said this is number 4. Number 3 was a Clubman with an N16 motor and had the valves blasted at least once. I hung an oil catch can in it to slow that down. That is why I decided to do the intercooler on my N18 R60.
Why you ask? I figure an intercooler mounted down low is in the perfect spot to condense and catch fumes. A super catch can as it were. When I took the stock one off it was coated with oil inside. I think it is pretty easy to get at and clean every so often. I never found an OCC that could be mounted in a cool place, and most are so small the retention time of the fumes will be very low. A big IC slows the gas down, cools it and would work very well to condense and collect the fumes.
A second reason is that the VANOS system produces remarkable fuel economy by reducing pumping losses in the intake tract as well as that sexy timing thing. A big IC reduces the velocity in that part by half. That reduces the drag by a factor of 4 and the resulting fluid flow head loss. It also reduces the pumping power loss in the IC by a factor of 8. So I should see better fuel economy as I live in the most expensive gas cost area in North America ( Metro Vancouver ).
Hey it may help perceived throttle response and all that. It will help on those long pulls up mountain passes that last for ten minutes or more and were famous for making AUDIs explode in flames a few years ago.
Once I got the plastic bumper off the install was really easy. There is lots of room. The fit was perfect on the stock mounting things. I wonder about the structural plastic there, but it is better than the ICs that do not have any support tabs. NO the hoses are not good enough, it will bang around if that's all you got.
I am reluctant to say it feels different. Confirmation bias is a *****. I will see numbers in my gas consumption. My commute is dead routine. If it works It will show up there.
So the MINI adventure continues.

Started the day with a good wash. Used TarX to remove some artifacts of recent post-winter road repairs, washed and then dried with a good detailing spray.
Then, road trip! Most of my driving is around town. My commute is only 11 miles each way. So it's not often that I get on the open road. Today I had a chance to get on the open road for a while (180 miles round trip). What a pleasure the car is on the highway, especially with the Pilot Sport 4S tires. It was a good day.

Ok, first off, what I did to my Duncan today is FINALLY installed the torque arm bushing insert that I got from Mario back when he tuned it. Yes it’s been just sitting here for about a year now.
Im so ashamed......lol
Seriously though, I tried to put it in a while back and had trouble getting it in by myself. But finally I got a big up my butt to do it, and Lo and behold, Grumps pulled it off!
Dang why did I wait so long???? I understand now. This little insert makes a lot bigger difference than you think it will. I really wasn’t expecting to notice much if anything different other than more vibration. It certainly does have more vibration at idle. But moving, it’s feel good and tight. Throttle response feels sharper than it did with just a sprint booster. Together it’s fantastic. I noticed a difference though immediately when I started backing out of the driveway. The dead spot and mushy feel taking off from a dead stop has really changed. The car starts moving directly, with the delay even seeming less, although I’m not sure how that’s really possible, probably just in my head. But I definitely was surprised by it and wish I hadn’t waited for so long to install it!
Secondly I have a question for you detailing specialists out there.... As you may see in the photo, I’ve got some futz or something stuck to my front bumper after the winter. I haven’t been able to remove it. I also haven’t tried many things, because I don’t want to damage the paint. Anyone have any suggestions on what to do to get rid of that?
Well poop. It’s giving me some trouble uploading the photo, but if you have an idea I’ll still take it! And I can pm a pic or whatever too.
