Coolant temp sensor and water pump

Did anyone get anything about a water pump recall? And is it related to the coolant temp sensor?

I need to make an appointment to get my coolant temp sensor replaced or fixed. But dealer is in Dallas or Houston so it might be a few weeks.
Any suggestions on when I should have this done?

Thanks everyone!

a week ago today, i was at the dealer for "free car wash saturday" and the SA "read my key when i checked in

he found that a "recall camaign" the so called coolant sensor recall applied to my car, an 03/2012 build cms all4 manual

i have had no cels or warnings of any kind in 4 1/2 monthes and almost 6k miles of ownership

wed had the campaign performed, took 45 minutes including another free wash

i notice no change at all in the operation of the car after a little over 200 miles driven since having the campaign performed

if you are not having any issues, get the recall done at your convience, otherwise asap

my SA said they are staging the sending of the recall letters as well as staging the recall as appling when the key is read so that parts are available and a rush is avoided

i go to the dealer almost every saturday for "free car wash saturday" and they read the key at checkin, last saturday the recall showed as appling to my car, previous weeks it did not, and i have not received a letter yet

I believe the 'water pump recall' was for 2007-early 2011 turbo Minis and is the small pump that cools the turbo bearing, not the engine water pump. Later 2011 and all 2012 already have the new part.

Thanks everyone, for your replies. We may not be able to make it to our dealer until middle to end of September, so that's why I'm asking about these recalls.

Just for the record...

There has never been a recall for the engine water pump. There *was* a recall on the circuit board that controls the (separate) turbo cooling system. When overheated, some components of the board were prone to failure.

There is a current recall on the temperature sensor. It is in a different location on the R60 than the other MINI models. This new location is nearer to a heat source that, in some cases, melts the solder on the sensor leads causing them to disconnect. With disconnected sensor leads, the R60 wil not start.

HTH,

I emailed my SA just to double check and he told me that there is no formal recall for the sensor at this time however the part is being switched out as Countryman's come in for their yearly check.

They should do a recall, the car can leave you stranded.

Absolutely right! My bad calling it a "recall". MINI probably has issued a technical service bulletin (internal) so as to avoid an "official" (public) recall.

I have a 2012 base model mini and I was driving on the freeway and my engine light came on. I heard this rattling like a fan rubbing against plastic. I took it to the nearest mini dealer. They took my key and the cooling sensor comment came up on my work order...i left it..came back, and they mentioned something about a water pump..does that sound right for a base model? any new updates?
Also..what's up with waiting till 16,000 miles for an oil change..is that necessary...i am soooo not used to this.

Welcome to NAM!

Do a search for oil changes and a lot will come up. Most people who are nervous about the extended oil change pay out of pocket to do them sooner. Again, searching, particularly in the forums for older models, will provide more info to ponder more so than answers and I don't want to completely derail this thread into another oil change discussion.
